BREAKING NEWS: Vidal close to Manchester United.

Didn't think I'd leave the last page thinking BaZ was talking the most sense of anyone about Manchester United, crikey.

**** off! Everybody knows I'm the voice of reason and impartiality.
Essentially I see the loss of Vidic/Evra/Ferdinand as fairly significant....

I don't. Evra's been bang average (at best) for at least 3 seasons now. I don't see how Shaw will do any worse than what Evra was doing. Much the same with Ferdinand. Ferdinand's performance levels have been on the decline for years but well and truly fell of a cliff last season.

Vidic is the only loss and even then, since his first knee injury he's not been nearly the player he was.

If you're looking at entire Utd careers then yes, it will be hard to replace those players (Ferdinand and Vidic in particular) but they're going to have to have a bit of a disaster to end up worse off comparing last season to this coming season in isolation.

This isnt posted because of Vidal but the claim (and I stress that word inparticular) that RM have already made £20m in shirt sales from Rodriguez's signing in a week!!! (now 1st it may not be true, and 2nd there is no telling how many of those were planned shirt sales anyway and just chose the latest galactico 's name......rather than £20m of additional sales)

Just thought it was an interesting statement

I've always been a bit confused as to shirt sales.
Take that quote for instance, £20m accumulated in a week.
At a rough guess shirts are £50 each and let's say they make half of that (max?) so they'd have to sell 800,000 in a week to make £20m.
Are my maths right and is that all really likely?

It's *******s. It was reported that £20m worth of shirts were sold. The rights to the shirts are owned by Adidas who sell the shirts to retailers.

The only money Real would have seen (on top of their agreement with Adidas) would be money made as a retailer selling the shirts from their official stores. And that would be nothing like £20m.

edit: It's also worth remembering that the vast majority of shirts that were sold would have still been sold regardless of the signing, they'd have just had Ronaldo or Benzema's name on the back instead.

[edit]just seen that fat frank story. Lamps at city, Fab at Chelsea, RvP at manyoo... Rooney to arsenal?

Interesting as I was discussing this with my dad earlier. We were watching my lad play today in a training session. A group of 25 kids - 7 kids were in the jersey of the team they play for, 2 Man Utds, 1 Man City, 1 Hull City and the rest were Real (about 2/3 Ronaldo, 1/3 Rodriguez with tellingly no Bale) and Barcelona (all Messi).

60m? Is that true? If Juve get that, they will be laughing their heads off. Ridiculous..

60m euros? Thats not ridiculous at all. Thats about £48m which for a world class midfielder is not extortionate.

Euro's? i must have misread of something, yea suppose. Still seems a lot when you add in wages on top of that. I wouldn't pay that for him personally, but i suppose that's why i'm not the manager of Utd..

There's better value out there i'm sure of it..
