Thought 1st September was deadline day?

Potentially 4 more weeks of this.

Marotta on Arturo Vidal: "We have already said that he's not on the market, but the will of the player is decisive."

Clearly the last part says it all...

I hope Fletcher and Cleverley play vs Real Madrid later, might highlight a few issues.

At least we should have a final answer tomorrow.

Unless... it resumes after the tour and drags out over the 4-6 weeks after. Ugh.

It can only drag on for two weeks after the tour surely, anything longer means he wont be signing:)

And given the high price and his age imo Utd wouldnt chase him again next summer ( one year less to make the already high amoritization figures work)

If he has already asked to leave, hopefully they wont force him on tour to the other side of the planet

Going off some youtube vids, that Carvalho looks to be exactly what Arsenal need. Some big, strong defensive mid to sit in front of the back line, but also has good vision and passing.

Rumours of Vidal's agent heading in to finalise deal. Rumours of us going for Cuadrado seem to be re-emerging too. Wish this would just finish with him joining us.

I wish the transfer window could just be nice and simple, rumours are just effort

It was a nice win today, chambers played as CB and looked comfortable. Nice young RB looked good too.

Up front we look covered, even so-no-goal got four. Campbell looked dangerous.

Adding Carvalho would make it a very strong squad. Actually quite excited about this team. First time I can say that since the invincibles. (no I don't think they are as good as them) :p

Please be true, please be true, please be true.

Selling Torres and buying Cavani would stir something unnatural within my underwear.

Noooo.
Please God, let Torres stay at Chelsea.
If Chelsea get rid of this non-scoring striker, they could be near unbeatable (when you consider the addition of Fabregas).

Besides, didnt Mourinho recently state that there will be no more signings this Summer?

And also this:

Won't matter if Torres is there or not IF Costa can stay fit. He's already playing well and looks like a pretty short world cup has helped him to heal up. From what I've seen in pre-season he doesn't look like he's running slower or in pain. With hamstrings you never know, Messi/Aguero having a hell of a time coming back from hamstring injuries, constantly re-injuring, looking not comfortable when they are playing, less willing to run, not running as fast, not using their explosive acceleration.

Costa looks fairly comfortable, if he has a hamstring constantly going again season Chelsea will struggle without replacing Torres. Fabregas had a similar hamstring injury at Arsenal, struggled and kept being reinjured in his last season and for the first 6 months at Barca.

On that point, I wonder how Barca will be with Messi still looking to be not at ease and playing till late in the cup, not ideal. Aguero for City another big question mark for this season.

He did. Then he brought in Drogba two days later :D

Anything Mourinho says should be taken with a large pinch of salt frankly :p Saying that he's looking to sell Torres wouldn't really help anything: It dents the players confidence (which is already at rock-bottom), and puts the club in a weak position if anybody is crazy enough to look seriously at buying him.

As above though, if Costa stays fit then it's a non-issue. He'll start all the big games, and he's looked immense so far in pre-season. But, if Torres is sold, it will free up a position for a more suitable second striker (Bony? Benteke?) who could perform for 90mins week in and week out. Not to mention freeing up £195k per week from the wage books!

Salary cap would be irrelevant if Man City paid the wages surely....

Sorry for delay replying I'm no MLS expert but from I can gather designated players still count towards the salary cap, say for example New York City FC sign Fellaini for $900,000 a year he will still take up $387,500 in the overall player budget, the other $512,500 would be paid by NYC FC... but even if Man City's owners were covering the players' wages in full it would still mean that NYC FC would be wasting $387,000 of their salary budget on a player who is not even playing for them.

MLS is a bit weird all of the clubs (franchises) and players contracts are owned by the league. I don't think MLS would allow that sort of thing to happen as it would be damaging to MLS.

It's being reported tonight that a loan deal for Manquillo has been agreed and he'll fly to Liverpool on Monday to have his medical. The same articles are also reporting that a deal for Moreno is getting closer and that should be done soon too.

I really hope these pre season results don't lead to us thinking we don't need signings.

Me too. I just wish we had some idea of who we're looking at signing, it's likely we've got some interest in Vidal, but the British press are getting told nothing aside from Hummels with Vermaelen second choice, both of which are suspect/unlikely.

It just wouldn't fly. It'd come under related party transactions, so it could be examined by UEFA and given a fair value in terms of the accounts. So if they claimed it cost £1, which meant they broke even... UEFA could say fair value for the deal was £20m and so for the purposes of FFP they lost £19 999 999. I'm sorry, it's not a genius idea :'(.

Arbitrary figures just for illustrative purposes, obviously.

Woo sensible reply :D.

I agree, I thought about it more and basically came to a similar conclusion that basically that **** wouldn't fly with UEFA. I'm sure (or rather I hope) that UEFA would have had the foresight to envisage the majority of situations including loan players.

It wasn't so much a genius idea, more of the trail of thought of a Tummy after too much Rioja.

Dier is a pretty good signing for Tottenham, or at least has done well at youth level / good young player. Hope he can adapt and improve.
