I read a bit about that today too.
Is he actually any good?

i'm not so sure what his role is though that could be down to management. avb played him every game and nackered him out. sherwood hasn't been so keen. he's decent but i haven't seen anything that warrants the price we paid for him but i can see him lighting things up in chelsea's midfield and i would assume he may be seen as lampard's replacement (box to box)

Haven't seen anything from him that suggested truly top notch talent. Okay player, maybe. He certainly doesn't come across as a good enough player to be a attacking central mid or withdrawn striker and defensively I think he's meh at best. He likes to run box to box but I don't think he's great on the ball, passing, shooting or defensively. if anything I'd see him as closer to a back up player at Spurs than first team at a top four club.

I would say he could be considered either a Lampard or Ramires replacement. Less of a red card risk than Ramires and probably similar in quality, Ramires's only claim to being a good player is some important goals which come from pace much more than talent. I don't think Paulinho has that, and for me he's a million miles from Lampard as a player.

Chelsea would be pretty mad to buy him for anything more than a few mil to make up the numbers.

Surely they aren't stupid enough to ignore Lukaku again

Trouble with some teams is the need for a big name. With Lukaku deemed potentially too small a name and with no proven consistency I can easily see Chelsea buying a big name striker.

If they do, while Lukaku would make a good back up striker, for him to really progress into a top notch striker you'd want him playing 30+ games a year which won't happen behind say Costa or someone.

Chelsea's best bet is sell him for cheap, cheap enough to insist on a cheapish buy back/first option clause, as it would be a new contract it would mean say 4-5 years with the option to get him back, by 24-25 you'd know if he can score 20 + a season or if he drops off.

If they don't play him first team soon or get him to sign a contract(I wouldn't in his current situation of Chelsea not playing him) then he's liable to leave in a couple years on a free.

I think as long as he's playing he has the potential to be very very good. Playing a really significant number of games from now till 23-24 is crucial if he wants to turn into a really top notch player. Wrong choice and he'll be a bit part player and quite likely not progress beyond where he is now.

I do hope that Chelsea sell to Everton though, working well with Martinez, seems to have added a few things to his game and frankly just like seeing Martinez do well with Everton. For Chelsea as above, a cheaper deal would give them a bit of negotiating power in terms of clauses to maybe get him back in the future and cheaper deal would obviously suit Everton.

And potentially having first refusal on Barkeley.

Eden Hazard up for sale?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27258633

I thought he was the new Messi?

lol, the backlash after his comments yesterday were always going to come. Now Mourinho is blaming Hazard for tracking back but not being the best fullback in the world. While Mourinho who had great fullbacks on the pitch played them out of position while asking his wingers to play fullback.

It's impossible to track every run, to defend every cross, to block every shot, to save every shot. You might do it one game through extreme luck now and then but if you play to not concede and win by fluke then this is the result. You will concede more often than not when you play those tactics. You will fail to score more often than not playing these tactics, and Mourinho's history in the CL pretty much proves this.

Hazard was a little daft to say they aren't set up to play football, but he was honest.

It's a shame Mourinho attacks the player rather than attacks what the player said. He's not being honest in who is at fault for the performance, complain that Hazard said what he did, complain it was unprofessional to say it, but he can't claim it wasn't true and when Terry/Cole made worse mistakes for the goal it's pretty ridiculous to pick out Hazard and decide to blame him entirely and question his commitment.

Risky criticising Hazard so directly and not just addressing his comments. Perhaps he should come join Chelseas other reject at United. He would have stiff competition on the wing but we could rotate him with Valencia and Young.

It was silly of Hazard to make them but I can just imagine Mourinho waiting since the end of the game for someone to make a scape goat so it's not his fault.

On LVG wanting Muller, he might but multiple players supposedly having issues with Guardiola, multiple players not happy and their football getting worse. It ain't going to happen(most likely).

Ultimately Guardiola has been criticised a lot in the past 2-3 months before the loss for increasingly boring football. He responded to some of them by saying he wouldn't stay where he isn't wanted. Then he gets thrashed in the CL due to basically woeful tactics and turning a great team into a painfully dodgy one. I can see him leaving before they sell all the unhappy players.

Muller is absolutely loved by Bayern fans and he could be a key part of a team that has an excellent chance of winning the world cup. I think they'd fired Guardiola before selling Muller, and Guardiola might just walk if he's not wanted there any more. Gotze apparently also unhappy as he's being used less and less and not starting in big games.

I see Guardiola being gotten rid of before losing their best players. Muller would be outstanding if he left, for Utd or anyone else.
