It's not an awful lot about what Hazard said, it was that Mourinho decided to publicly spank him for what were fair comments. Ill advised sure, but absolutely true. However Mourinho blaming Hazard for the loss is utterly ridiculous, completely unfounded and insane. Hazard didn't make any friends with his comments but any calm rational manager would say along the lines of "it's not great he says it, but I can't disagree, we need to do better". Instead Mourinho made comments that could easily alienate the player.

To say Chelsea were too negative is reasonable, to blame one player, when at minimum 3 other players made mistakes leading to the goal, all made after Hazard made his, is completely beyond absurd.

Mourinho's comments were exceptionally strong, unwarranted and they'd **** off most players if made against them. If he's said along the lines of Hazard was young and unprofessional to make comments I would potentially agree, but to place the blame for losing entirely on Hazard is itself absolutely unprofessional, much more so.

Here's his quote & interview verbatim -

Now I don't really speak French/Flemish or whatever it is but it's obvious to me that he didn't just say 'Chelsea don't play football' which is what you seem to think he said.

What do you make of it?

It's right in the middle of the quote - "Chelsea are not made for playing football. We are good on the counter, a little like Real against Bayern".

Robben, Mata, Hazard... JM really has issues with talented players!

Perhaps it needs rephrasing, maybe its Jose who can't play football and his teams are setup to take cheap wins on the counter attack. After all that is all he has ever tried to play at Porto, Madrid and Chelsea?

We do play counter attacking football though. Thing is with mourinho he would come in and demand that we buy the best players we can. Sure that might mean better wingers and a more ruthless approach to our existing playing staff.

Teams like chelsea have had a blank cheque almost so should be able to buy great players in all positions and not have to rely on a counter attacking style.

Liverpool, the 'best footballing team in the PL', have scored the most goals on the counter attack this season, almost twice the next team.
Cheapskates.

That's what having fast players who make forward runs and two in form strikers can do.

When we won the cl last time our team wasn't much different across the core. The real difference being we had ronaldo and tevez who were good, fast direct.

We still have Carrick, fletcher, rio Vidic Evra etc. It's just that our players who made things happen quickly are now gone. Replaced with valencia and young.

But really the onus has to be on the wealthier team to be the pervasive force showing dominant posession and being able to use it.

Otherwise you play counter attack all the time and then play someone who goes defensive and suddenly you don't know what to do.

Not to say that teams shouldn't counter attack, but if you have limitless funds you should be buying a team to dominate and play expansive football. Not building a team who's primary setup is counter attack.

Liverpool aren't wealthier, and counter attacking against us was exactly the right tactic.

£4m deal for Nani going to Juve (according to the Star), unfortunately not that unbelievable despite having 4 years remaining on his contract. Probably something to do with his insane wages he is rumoured to be on.

And I was taking about chelsea.

But in the EPL fans love to see players running at people, taking them on with purpose. That's why within 10 mins of junazaj coming on shami said he looked our best player. We find it exciting to watch. When you've got someone doing it like ronaldo with his pace, power trickery and 40 goals a season. And even though giggs never scored 40 in a season he did a similar thing.

Somehow you end up with Ashley young and valencia doing it instead and wonder why why all your moves break down when the ball gets into the areas you're accustomed to seeing magic happen.
