Thats just mental. Yes Carrick is the wrong side of 30 but he is still a much better player than either Fletcher or Cleverley. He probably shouldnt be offered a new contract, but he is good player to partner someone like Kroos or Carvalho in rotation from the squad.
Carrick is probably going to be even worse next season. Slow and not good enough for United anymore. Anyone 30 or ever except RvP should not be starting a game next season.
Buying a whole new mf won't be beneficial but let's see how Carrick does in the final two games.

That midfield would get ripped apart against a half decent team, and Rafael, Smalling and Evans is weak. You'd do an arsenal...play nice football, win most matches, and lose 6-0 to City and Chelsea.

So the 3 defenders that have experience playing against the highest level of football is weak but 18 year old Luke Shaw isn't? Ok :o

Maybe but honestly we can't integrate 7 or so new players in one go and expect to thump every team. I want Kroos though, haven't seen Carvalho so can't say if he will be any better. We will probably play 433 a lot aswell. I'd replace Rafael next summer.

Obviously I want more players replaced but I'm realistic to know it's not a good idea to throw 6-8 new players in one go. Mf, lb and wings is where realistically we will be strengthening this summer.

I believe we're linked with Cavani because Woodward wants a star player from that part of the world for marketing purposes. I can't remember where I saw this mentioned but it seems somewhat plausible.
Football Manager? Game used to say that if you sign a really well known player the club would see a massive commercial windfall as fans rush to buy merchandise. Considering it's Woodward in charge, it wouldn't surprise me if he's using FM to 'advise' him. :p

If Hazard leaves, it'll be to PSG.
He's a talented player but not the kind we need. If he wanted to play for us, he should have chosen us first time round. ;)

As for the rest of your team... Cleverley... wow. We could replace him cheaply with someone who is far better.
Almost any midfielder in the world would be better than Cleverley. :D

Man.U. fans thinking that they can buy any player they want is brilliant seeing as all they can offer them now is money after moaning about any player linked with them choosing not to join them was only down to money :p

I certainly don't think that, and money isn't all we can offer. We'll (hopefully) have a successful manager in place soon, and we're Manchester United, that counts for something.

Obviously no Champions League doesn't help matters, but I think we might get a couple of surprisingly good signings (ones that will be after the money to some extent, which I'm not against if it gets us good players).

It all comes down to who we ship out and who we get in, it'll be interesting to see what Van Gaal has planned, assuming he's the new manager. We should know by Wednesday/Thursday.

One season out of the champions league doesn't stop Man Utd from being one of the biggest clubs in the world with the biggest club stadium in the country.....

My post wasn't aimed at you as you're not that blinkered.

For me, Utd need to focus first on solidifying the team. Your attacking players are ok...not great, but ok. Your central midfield and central defence are shocking. Two realistic transfers which would make a huge difference are Laporte and Strootman. Get them in first and fast, and then go after the bigger but riskier targets like Kroos and Robben.

I agree I've watched them a lot this season and like most I think they really need to shore up the back and midfield before spending any more on attacking players. I mean if Kagawa, Mata, Rooney and Van Persie are not enough then you have problems. Young and Valencia whilst not great can be useful in a squad as can Welbeck even if he plays like bambi on ice sometimes.

One thing I think Man Utd need to do is to get a leader - I don't think they have anyone there anymore who really fits that category it's something they haven't had for some time now a real inspirational figure on the pitch not just someone who can be goby and get all riled up. Vidic was good but he's been out a lot recently and he is off soon anyway.

We have enough attacking firepower (aside from some pace) as it stands, so yes, we should be looking at a couple of defenders and likely two or three (deeper) midfielders as a priority. As the midfield gets stronger, so will the attack, as they won't all have to keep coming so deep to get the ball.

Kroos and Strootman (both fairly unlikely I admit) would make a very good midfield two, then maybe someone who can play a holding role behind them where required against stronger teams.

Without knowing exactly how Van Gaal wants us to play, it's tricky to say exactly who we need. He'll definitely prefer RvP up top, but will he want Rooney behind him? Mata is probably more adept in the number 10 role. Maybe Rooney can play wider as an inside forward or something, but maybe he'll be rubbish like that, he's not the quickest.

With some fancy coaching, RvP/Rooney/Kagawa/Mata might be able to flourish in a system that Van Gaal comes up with, he tends to play 433 but has deviated from it sometimes, depending on his squad.

As Robbo says it all depends on what system the next manager wants to play. If we persist with wingers then we need at least 2, especially if Nani leaves. Young should go, Valencia can be 4th choice. So that leaves us with Januzaj and then Mata, Welbeck and Kagawa who aren't really wingers.

I hope LvG has learnt from his time at BM that you cant use just one system anymore

Im all for going to a 4-3-3 but the squad / players have to be adaptable for those games / opposition where its not working.

And as you know Utd's heritage is based on wingers and it would be sad to see that go.
