I agree, he was playing at left back at the World Cup, I've not seen him at centre back but he's played there for Sporting all last season. He slotted in well for Argentina at LB (despite not playing there for ages) and did well. No major mistakes that I can think of and he was up against numerous high quality players.

The problem is that Argentina defended with their entire team most of the time and Mascherano was an absolute beast in front of the defence which makes any defenders life much easier.

He did indeed look handy but I'm not convinced he is going to make a huge difference to us.

In isolation it's not going to fix any major problems. We're still (at the very least) short of an experienced centre back and a central midfielder who can work hard in a defensive sense. For Swansea's second goal Fletcher was just casually jogging back, and then as Sigurdsson moved into an acre of space, just stood there and didn't even move near him. :(

Shirley he'll agitate for a move to 'the biggest club in the world', rather than sign an extension at Roma .

;)

There won't be room on the private jet we will have chartered to bring in all the world class players we are signing in the dying embers of the transfer window.

I get the impression that if LvG has a bad season and feels like Woodward is not doing what he needs to, he will walk. Then we will struggle to get another top manager in because no one will want a job with a retard at the help of transfers.

Every season we are slowly but surely slipping down the pecking order in the league and the quality of the squad is dropping.

Good article on our transfer window nightmare .......
.

United may have signed Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, but both of those deals were effectively finalised last season following months of negotiation and only needed to be signed off on once the market opened. As such, the club have not made any tangible progress on a deal in this window.

So they were Moyes targets anyway?

Big fan of Rojo - be interesting to see how LvG uses him, whether centrally or the left side. Have to pay his agent hugely, though I think? Similar to the Mangala deal (not as much obviously).

We knew that anyway  Though I think Shaw has been a target since before Moyes.

It does appear Woodward is penny-pinching (again ). I'm hoping he'll have a breakdown of some sort and overpay for all the players we're interested in. Benatia is pretty much off the table now; Bayern will get him, or he'll stay. Of course as soon as Bayern's interest appeared, we suddenly were never interested... yeah, right.

Another concern is we haven't really shipped any players out yet. I get some are on high wages but we'll have to cut our losses a bit and subsidise them to get the deals done, or let them go cheaply.

The closer we get to the end of the window, the worse it'll be. The only exception being Di Maria, I think we might be able to get him a bit cheaper assuming PSG have actually pulled out and RM are keen to sell him. RM value him at €65m, a price which needs to come down a fair bit. In today's market £40m would make him a decent buy. The problem with signing him is that in our current system, he doesn't fit a critical position, not CM, not CB. To be honest he doesn't really fit in at all.

If we suddenly turn our attention to Blind, Ajax are going to do what Everton did with Fellaini and force us to overpay. I think he'd be good next to Herrera, he's a tidy player and can do all the basics very well, something our other midfielders are poor at. If LvG genuinely wanted him, we'd have signed him a while back. He'd be keen on a move and Ajax wouldn't stand in his way.

We can surely afford to push through a couple of huge deals as we have the financial backing to support the wages and instalments over the next few years; for example Di Maria at approx £25m a season over 4 years (wages+fee). It doesn't sound so bad when you consider the kind of income we have secured for future seasons.

If, for whatever reason we do have limited funds - then buying Shaw for £27m was insanely stupid. Herrera I think will turn out to be worth it, when we get a good player to partner him and he settles into the league. Something seems off about Shaw so far, first his fitness concerns, then his injury...

It's really, really confusing, and infuriating at the same time. At least there's still time to fix it, but are we really going to suddenly spend £100m+ in the space of 13 days~? I really doubt it, but would love to be wrong.

The squad won't finish top 4 if money isn't spent. The quality just isn't there.

I think our strongest eleven, if they could play every week and played to their best, could squeeze it. However, the conditions required for that to happen are incredibly unlikely; even more so when you consider how injury prone all of our defenders are. :o

Rojo has just confirmed he's joining us in a radio interview with Argentina's Radio Continental, so it seems this is wrapped up at least.

'It feels like a dream, to be a Manchester United player. Leaving Sporting wasn't easy.'

Should be official tomorrow then, unless we've got to wait for Nani to get sorted out.
