He knew he couldn't do the job? i suppose you didn't see the recent articles from Rodgers and Moyes saying he didn't get long enough? What you don't understand, is it's going to take years....just let that sink in...it takes years to change a philosophy/team about. You only 2 transfer windows per season..

Of course that's what he said, he'd be stupid to flat out admit to being a failure. Never going to happen.

Lets just see how Everton and United do this season..they could both be a lot worse off, what would that say?

It's becoming even harder it seems to get the players you want as well.

Rogers seems like a decent so and why would he say "yeah he made a mess and had plenty of time. Liverpool is a great example though. Perhaps they should have stuck with Hodgson or Dalglish. Rogers has been given time and money and the only reason he is still in a job is because he has done well. He improved their style of football and the quality of it.

Moyes made a mess of every aspect of the job and would never have taken us to where we wanted to be. You don't give a guy a 6 year contract unless you will stand by him through most issues. The fact we sacked him after less than a season tells you that they realised they made a big mistake. If we were seeing any signs of improvement then he would still be here.

As Robbo says, the club couldn't care less about what the fans say about the manager. They will make decisions based on other factors.

Not true at all, especially when you have the board that United do..

Boateng, tragic? He's been extremely good lately. Dante isn't bad either.

Got to say. I agree with OP on the Dante front. No idea how he gets into that Bayern team. Only thing I can think of is that he is made to look good by everyone doing the work around him and keeping the clean sheets record. Just look at the Bayern v Arsenal game last year, he was run all over the shop by Chamberlain and the same thing happened in the World Cup when Silva served his ban. Gets away with it in a slow paced game but the instance anyone runs at him over 10mph he plays like Mertesacker did in his first few games in the PL except Dante plays that way permanently.

Its pretty depressing that Chelsea can get Cesc and Costa signings done and dusted so fast, yet we just drag on and on and on with any player thats linked to the club.

I actually hate Woodward.

I know not investing in midfield has gone on longer than Woodward being at the top but why did Gill go again? £120m or more spent and Utd still need to probably spend that again just to be competitive for top four! Zouma, isn't he meant to be one of the best up and coming defenders in Europe? £12m? Yet £30m is spent on Shaw? Around £30m spent on Herrea, £30m for Fabregas, or £28m on Felaini. The mind boggles, even if they do have this massive war chest Woodward goes on about it worries just a little if it will be spent wisely.

Surely he would not sell Fellaini unless he had someone else coming in

Given how useless he is in midfield Im not sure it makes any difference. better to blood a youngster than play someone you know is carp

Gill effectively retired from that kind of position (and was planned 12 + months in advance.

He does have a high profile job in European football, but not sure its anything like the day to day intensity of the Utd job he stepped down from.

Shaw price was always going to be inflated because he is a british player moving between two british clubs (look at Llalana - and to a lesser extent Lovren , although not british - fees)

Fab was so cheep because Barca HAD to sell before they could buy who they needed to given the FFP situation and the slap on the wrist they got from last summer. Its a one off impossible to compare to any other transfer (and pointless Utd buying him really without letting Mata go).

Sounds as if the Rojo deal is done, 4 year contract (+1 optional). Nani going on loan the other way.

So .....two more players before the end of the week please Woodward......more than enough time lol

Surely you wouldn't let your two most experienced CB by a mile leave without replacing at least one of them.

Surely you wouldn't let both your left backs leave in one window and replace them with a single teenager.

Surely you wouldn't look at the United midfield and think that we only needed one CM.

Surely after your only other half decent CM is ruled out for months with injury you wouldn't only bring in one CM.

Surely you wouldn't look at Young, Nani and Valencia and think that we don't need to buy at least one top quality winger.

There is no real logic to our transfers of late but like last season we may just have to suck it up and use what he have and hope to god that we don't get many injuries.

To be fair both of them where too old / injury prone for the EPL anyway so even if they hadnt left its highly questionable whether they would have been much use.

One was no use at all (Buttner) and Evra while being Utd through and through couldnt defend for his life - due to his legs being done and dusted.

.

IF LvG doesnt want to use wingers.......why have them

Their experience would have been invaluable and their leadership is lost as well. Vidic would have been fine for another season. Letting them both go at the same time was madness.

Buttner was cack but we don't have any cover there at the moment while shaw is injured.

If we play 4 - 3 - 3 you need wingers. I thought one of the reasons we are playing 5 - 2 - 1 -2 (or whatever you want to call it) was because of the personnel we have at the moment.
