Sounds as if the Rojo deal is done, 4 year contract (+1 optional). Nani going on loan the other way.

Some places are reporting its Anderson going the other way (both equally carp and both just as likely as the other to be part of the swap imo)

Their experience would have been invaluable and their leadership is lost as well. Vidic would have been fine for another season. Letting them both go at the same time was madness.
We didnt have a choice, vidic wanted to leave - and 2ndly if he isnt capable of playing his leadership skills are irrelevant. There were numerous games last season where Vidic was horrendously off the pace and there wss no way he was worth keeping another season (however fantastic he has been previously).

Most people seem to call it 3-5-2 (which imo makes a lot more sense than majority of other descriptions) , and if LvG wants to use that system paying £100m on two wingers (even if they are possible to get which still has to be proved) there are more important areas of the pitch to concerntrate on before wingers come into it (ie CB or two and a hard tackling, and fit, CM)

Because we are playing them?

Thats to be proved, majority of the tme we have used wing backs (and neither Nani , Valencia or Young are good enough quality in the EPL to be able to do it effectively)

Out of 7 games LvG has used wingers for a whole 45 minutes (and it failed to work) so its still to be proven that he will continue in that way.

Cerci anounced he agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid. The Tweet was later deleted.

If we play 4 - 3 - 3 you need wingers. I thought one of the reasons we are playing 5 - 2 - 1 -2 (or whatever you want to call it) was because of the personnel we have at the moment.

Correct, it's to get the best out of Mata and lets us play two strikers. So far, (aside from a few moments in pre-season) Mata hasn't looked comfortable there. In the game against Valencia he barely got a touch of the ball, and didn't do much better against Swansea. When RvP is playing he consistently makes the excellent runs you'd expect Mata to pick out, so that will be a good indicator of how it's going.

I think we might be better off just rotating Rooney, Mata and RvP based on their form, and playing a different system.

We need to get real quality in where possible, and there isn't much of it available. Di Maria isn't what we need for the 3 at the back system, so I'd like to see him and Januzaj as wingers. Having said that, I think a class CB and CM are more important, especially if we stick to the current system.

It's all a bit of a mess at the moment. I know we had injuries but Lingard at RWB should throw up huge red flags for different reasons, he's a young, inexperienced player who can't remotely defend, and is traditionally a number 10.

All 3 players played regularly pre season and in game 1 of the season. So we are using them.

Mid table signing :/

Difficult to say, he's got the ability and potential but his temperament is very much in question. He's reckless and has a very bad temper, which doesn't really fit the bill for an LvG player. From a profile I read on him:

Marcos Rojo will give his all for you, but that is not always a good thing. He is a very impatient man with a lot of temper. He is the kind of player who can kick away the ball when the opponent have received a soft free-kick, when he is already on a yellow card. The worst part of it? You would not even be surprised. Rojo also has the tendency to throw himself into the tackles, which potentially can be career-threatening for other players. During his two seasons at Sporting, so far, Rojo has managed to pick up 21 yellow cards and 4 red cards in 49 league games.
The success of his signing will be entirely dependant on LvG being able to sort out the above.

as I said as WINGBACKS not as wingers, and even Swansea could run Young ragged (and he was the most impressive wingback in preseason)

Please TRY and pay attention Frank. This was your original comment that I replied to:

IF LvG doesnt want to use wingers.......why have them

Because he does want to use wingers...as wing backs. He's hardly targeting any to sign is he?

Sounds like a questionable signing tbh :/

Yeah but it does at least sound like a signing :p

Of course there doesn't appear to be anything more to this than there has been to every other rumour that has turned out to be complete BS.

It's a very interesting signing, he doesn't fit the mould of LvG's 'total person principle'. That means he monitors aspects of his players personal life as well as professional, their temperament, attitude, etc.

He's covered in tattoos as well:

Yeah, it says Pride and Glory on his thighs. :p

It's certainly a gamble, I think (and certainly hope) he'll settle down a bit and be a great player, or he'll be a problem...

There is more to this, it seems pretty much nailed on. None of the other transfers to date have been close to this unanimous among the reliable sections of the press.

Maybe it's a smoke screen... ;)

and as Ive tried to explain wingers as wingbacks doesnt work in the EPL (or certainly not the quality we have) so its irrelevant - so YOU TRY and pay attention!!!

I thought he looked good at the World Cup for sure.

I agree, he was playing at left back at the World Cup, I've not seen him at centre back but he's played there for Sporting all last season. He slotted in well for Argentina at LB (despite not playing there for ages) and did well. No major mistakes that I can think of and he was up against numerous high quality players.

And like a magicians best trick, after the smoke has cleared there will be nothing there. Poof!

Not funny! :p :(
