Gibbs, who by the way can't defend for ****, is out for three weeks. Thankfully in our weakest position we have a lightweight who is rubbish at football and a back up who appears to be useless also. :(

Would like to buy a proper actually top notch left back. Would be happy to see Bellarin get a game at left back though, along with Campbell he was the most impressive younger player in preseason. Looked genuinely dangerous going forward and strong defensively. In the biggest games we lost out in the fullback areas more than anything else, Debuchy is a likely good upgrade on Sagna(not 100% convinced on him yet), but Gibbs was the weakest link last year and a lot of the better teams targeted that side because he was so poor, if we can fix that problem we could have a genuine chance at a title run this year.

How on earth have RM done it again? Last season they got Bale and got Arsenal to pay half the transfer player whilst shipping out a player they didn't need. This season they got Rodriguez and are getting Man Utd to pay the vast majority of that transfer fee by selling Di Maria.

RM are getting rid of unwanted players and getting extraordinary sums for them! Why didn't Man Utd go in for Rodriguez in the first place; £10m more for a younger, more marketable and potentially much better player seems like a no brainer

There's no way we could have got Rodriguez, he wanted to play for Real Madrid. I'm also not sure he's quite worth £63m, he didn't exactly set the French league on fire. I think Di Maria is better, and more versatile too.

I think we're hoping to get Di Maria for somewhere around £40m (at the most), so he's a good bit cheaper. Not sure about wages.

I think both Rodriquez and Di Maria are both heavily overrated. Di Maria scored 4 goals in the league last season....4. You'd be better off throwing the money Dortmund's way. 40mil plus Di Maria's wages is silly.

Could probably get a good song out of it though...

Marco Reus is nailed on for Bayern. I don't care what Beckenbauer said, he's off to Bayern next window just like all the other BVB stars. (Apart from Kagawa of course...)

People don't want to hear how poor marias return actually is:/ considering the team he's in he should be bashing it. He's got about a 1 in 5 or 1 in 6 goal to game ratio. Fir all the club's he's played for and country.

Real are happy to get rid and will be laughing all night long if someone pays nearly 60 . mill.

It's interesting that through bad buying utd only really have one or two high price saleable assets. Rooney and maybe de gea. The current transfer value for the players (except maybe herrera and shaw) is at most 15 million and in many cases less than 10 million.

Well done Woodward! You have beaten off the competition for Rojo and splashed the cash. Now we only need 3 more signing who are actually going to improve us significantly.

so they are spending circa 50 mill on 2 lb's but not playing either as a lb, good stuff! - do they even have a transfer strategy or is it a case of throwing money at the a bunhc of targets they can get and hoping for the best? Where's Di Maria going to play in the new bestest formation in the world 3-5-2?

Why on earth are people judging Di Maria on his goal return? His job at Real was to set up Ronaldo and Co. Last season in the league from 27 starts he assisted 17 goals and scored 4. So from 27 starts and 7 bench appearances he was involved in 21 goals. [http://www.espnfc.com/player/108223/angel-di-maria?season=2013]

Di Maria does blow hot and cold which he has shown for Real and Argentina but on many occasions, aside from his goals and assists, he shows something that is needed at against the top teams, he runs at and commits defenders.

I couldn't be bothered to explain this to him. Ronaldo and Bale score more than Benzema yet he is their main striker. RM are set up to maximise Ronaldos potential. Di Maria is one of their best players but that doesn't mean that they haven't replaced him with the flavour of the month in Rodriguez.

It's a bit naïve to say that Di Maria's goal return is poor... how often do you think the likes of Ronaldo, Benzema etc. actually pass to him when they could just take a shot themselves?

Add the goals and assists form cup competitions and from 44 starts, he amassed 23 assists and 12 goals.

Yeah but hes no Young or Valencia. I'm sure there was a ridiculous stat something along the lines of the pair of them notching up 2 assists between them all season.

For £50m or there abouts surely its not too much to ask having a direct goal threat as well as a decent assist maker (Reus for example?)

Of course there is something in the fact Ronaldo et al will rarely assist him which is a fair point, but I wouldnt say he will automatically go from 4 goals in Spain to 15 in England (along with similar assists) in one or two seasons either.

That depends on what his job is. And there is no reason he couldn't go from 4 to 15 goals a season depending on where he is used. Its very unlikely but wingers should be providing assists far more than goals if they are classical wingers.

Players like Ronaldo, Bale and Rodriguez score more goals because they are allowed to drift all over the place and the rest of the team accommodates that.

Explain what ?

He'll be going from supplying Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale to supplying Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck.

There's a bit of a difference there.

Going to be another long year for united possibly, need fair few good signings and players back from injury in order to put up a decent fight for top 4

It's not simply going to be supplying inferior players but playing in a less dominant side. At Real they spend 99% of the time in 99% of matches battering the opposition. There's far more opportunities to score or assist at Real than there will be at any side in the PL let alone a Utd side that's far from flying.
