No way, really? You would think fans would mention it more? :p

I know, however, most of the fans I have seen write and heard talk about this claim they only need two or three 'World class' players.

I disagree. I think they need more than two or three players and as for bringing 'World class' players in, the lack of European football is really going to hurt that.

There have been plenty of players already move this summer that would have improved Manchester United, not just the first team, but the squad.

The entire squad needs rebuilding. I just think quite a few fans underestimate how big of a job it is (rebuilding).

I agree with that, there are loads of players out there who would considerably improve the squad and likely first team. We just need to get some balance in there, and get rid of the dross.

Rojo is a good example, young, but with a fair amount of experience and can cover 2 positions. He's good but also has plenty of scope for improvement.

Rojo is a good player, he's more than capable in a number of positions. However, like any signing there is an element of risk.

Manchester United 'should' have looked at a number of other players that have moved this summer, it's a shame to see good players move around other good European clubs and to think that Manchester United could have made a move.

Manchester United have seemed inexcusably slow over the last few seasons at bringing players in.

This is the big issue I have.
We are thin in defence.
We cant afford to take risks and hope for the best.
I can only assume that LvG knows what he is doing, so we must wait and see.
I'd prefer that we brought in some proven talent - obviously this will cost money, which I am thinking Woodward doesnt want to spend.

I'm still quite bitter about Fabregas - he was the one player who I really wanted to join Man Utd. That's the sort of player quality we need. I just dont believe Rojo is of that quality.

We seem to be pinning all our hopes on Di Maria and I have no confidence in Woodward to get the job done.

We have only bought 3 players since the end of last season, which wouldnt be a problem in itself. The problem is that we have had so many players leave - I can't believe that Evra was allowed to leave. Shaw comes in. Evra leaves. Shaw gets injured and now we are screwed.

I think some United fans need to take down their expectations down a notch when it comes to transfers. No Rojo isn't Hummel's but he isn't as bad as some are making out. Van Gaal isn't a moron, there's a reason he's brought him in.

Uniteds spend compared to their sales (Ronaldo aside) is so bad. They need to take a look at us at Liverpool and see what we're doing. Younger players for cheaper...simples.

The issue with Rojo is he's the quality of player that supposedly led to Southampton being interested in him. Man U need to be signing players that teams like Chelsea would be interested in if they want to get back in that upper echelon.

You think Rojo is better than Mata?

Try to not edit so severely what I posted and then you will understand.....

To be fair he had some hand in the Mata transfer too (although I recall rumours of SAF /Gill being on hand too, not sure if that was ever "confirmed" or not). Whether he works in the current system or not, his quality is undeniable and (well) above anyone else Woodward has signed so far.

edit - although now he will probably require two weeks to lay down to recover.......

edit - on reflection I suppose I could have written it better (and not referred to Woodward and Mata as "he" in the same post) but it still pretty obvious imo Im referring to Mata as quality.

.

Undoubtedly Fab is quality, however his best position is far more forward than Utd need currently (unless we hadnt bought Herrera or Mata already). Have no idea how Chelsea are going to fit him in long term without annoying one of their other stars (unless its William who still looks a bit iffy)

Rojo played well at the WC and im not sure where people are coming from with the unproven thing. He's proven at international level for the W/C runners up, proven he can play european football (Spartak and Lisbson) Of course it will take him time to settle in but hes not the B lister some would have us believe.

Err no offence but no thanks ;) Benitez and Daglish brought more than there fair share of lemons

Even if the EPL isnt the "best" league in the world, there is still a huge step up from Russia / Portugal leagues to the English one.

The way Ive read it is that most fans seem to be ok with him as a back up option (at LB/LWB) but from the reading of the situation he may well be a starter at CB which is where the concern is which I agree with.

Utd should have been chasing / buying Benatia well before Bayern had their injury and we could have got it done and dusted. Its just too short sighted to expect to get things done with 2 or 3 weeks to go (Im giving a week's grace because it appears Utd finally started trying last week)

Differences between.mata and fabregas are that fabregas picks up the ball can dribke ans make things happen. Mata just doesn't. It was a mistake to buy a player chelsea wanted rid of fir more than chelsea paid for fabregas. Like a huge mistake.

My main question over Rojo is whether he'll become another Phil Jones or John o'Shea. Decent, versatile, but may not fulfill his potential due to being shunted all over the pitch.

I doubt he will ever be world class but the main concern seems to be his hotheadedness. Rojo and Rafael on the pitch at the same time could be fireworks.
