Lol @ Xabi Alonso.
Manchester United was asked for 40m€+1 player by Roma for Benatia after telling them they would offer 30m€.No reply since then
For those asking, in last week Chelsea haven't contact Roma for Benatia
Well our current team vs what we could have available is ridiculous
Vidal vs Fletcher
Di Maria vs Valencia
Herrera vs Cleverley
Shaw vs Young
Rojos vs Smalling
A very different approach to Liverpool's transfer business.
Even discounting the sale of Suarez, Liverpool have spent less than United, and have strengthened their entire lineup (the above isn't too far off an entire new side). They now have decent quality in depth right the way through the field.
United have clearly taken the opposing view - buy a few big-money "superstars". I could understand this if United already had a top-class side and just needed a few key additions (like Chelsea did this time around), but they don't. I can't help think that taking a Liverpool-type approach would have been a better bet. With the quality they have in attack, strengthening the quality and depth of midfield and defence with ~£10-£20m players would have put them in a good position for a CL place, and given a platform to further build in coming windows.
...just my 2p.
I doubt that 1 players was one of our choice either if that is at all true.
Who else did we lose other than Suarez?
Rogue "s". Player.
I didn't think you thought Suarez was that good anyway?
I don't think he is in the top 5 players in the world but that doesn't mean that he wasn't your best player by a long shot last season.
"Liverpool-type approach"? Isn't that the same as a "Tottenham-like approach" from last season? Get a ton of money from selling your star player, then spend it all on mediocre squad players. Didn't seem to work out so well for Spurs...So that takes United's net spend this summer to about £137.5m, on four players (Shaw, Herrera, Rojo, Di Maria).
Using figures from transfermarkt: £82.3 + di Maria in, and £8.8m out.
A very different approach to Liverpool's transfer business. They've spent a net £55.9m (£131.6m in, including £16m for Balotelli, and £75.7 out), and brought in:
Moreno, Lovren, Manquillo
Lallana, Can, Markovic,
Origi, Lambert, Balotelli

Edit: That's also over £200m net spent since Ferguson left.
Liverpool need strength in depth to cope with the additional European games.
Man U first and foremost need to add quality to their starting 11, particularly in defence and midfield. Di Maria is obviously yet another attacking player, but Man U's wingers have been **** for ages and Young and Valencia in particular looked absolutely atrocious today.
Better than Rooney and RvP as individuals but probably equal in terms of quality as a pairing.Better, worse or on a par with Rooney and RvP?
Better, worse or on a par with Rooney and RvP?
Genuine question btw. I ask because if we were so reliant on him as some would suggest,he's got to have been pretty special to have got us where we were.

United have enough mediocre players. They need quality players now.
