so arrogant

and utter nonsense, i dont think so only chelsea and city can blow 150 million without it hurting their finances

In this age of financial fair play, Man United have far more resources available to them than City, Chelsea or even PSG. Despite being backed by free-spending Billionaires, club revenue is what determines financial muscle. Man United, Barcelona and Real Madrid are well ahead of other clubs in this regard.

As for arrogance... stating outright that a club "cannot afford" to spend a certain amount without even quoting figures to back up your opinion is rather arrogant.

If there is a deal in the offing, Juventus have got to be looking at the Di Maria deal and think they can probably ask for a similar fee.

It's not a clear cut situation because of his knee, there's a notable degree of risk involved. Juventus will most likely ask for £40m, so we're £10m apart. Limited as he is, Hernandez must be worth £10m in today's market. Or, £35m+addons would maybe do it. Juventus will force Vidal to make it clear he wants the move though (if he does), and they'll paint him as the bad guy. It will also be reliant on whether Vidal will accept an appearance based contract.

Can't see it being straightforward at all.

Dutch/Belgian media are reporting that Sunderland have agreed a fee with Atletico for Toby Alderweireld, although the player is yet to agree to the move. He'd be a great signing for us so I'll be disappointed if this is true. Maybe we can get Virgil van Dijk instead now Celtic have missed out on the Champion's League.

There is also the question of replacements... This late in the window, finding a quality replacement for Vidal must surely be a concern for Juve (unless they've already brought someone in? I haven't been keeping track).

As the deadline approaches, prices tend to rise for this very reason.

All in all, I'd be surprised to see a deal come off for less than £40m. Let's wait and see what happens...

They're already pretty well stocked at central mid. Pogba, Marchisio and Pirlo remain (if Vidal goes) and they might have some younger players coming through. Not sure.

I would love to see Cleverly go, he's one of the worst players I've seen in a united shirt imo. Just awful.

Was talking about this with a mate. We reckon that since the PL era he is in our opinion the worst player to ever accumulate 50+ appearances for Man Utd.

Anderson showed more promise initially and completely failed to deliver and cost £20m more, makes him far worse ( when 20mil was a lot of money)

Unless Juve are desperate to sell because they either need the money or because his injury is worse than known, there's no reason for them not taking Utd to the cleaners.

PSG were quoted €55m for Di Maria, that price rocketed when Utd came calling because Real knew Utd were desperate.

No one has any idea how much PSG were quoted for Di Maria.

lol you saw the quote ? please upload

We need to get rid of a few players before the end of the window so sending Hernandez to Juventus wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

We could happily lose the following players:

Anderson
Young
Hernandez
I was at the match last night and when I realised that apart from De Gea and Evans the team was effectively half youngsters being given game time and an opportunity to make a name for themselves and players who could be on the cusp of leaving, i.e. Anderson, Hernandez, Welbeck, Kagawa and Powell. The bigger names did pretty much nothing to justify staying at Old Trafford and those three names you've put I would happily see leave. Anderson had so much promise but never got anywhere near it. Young is more suited to being Tom Daley's diving partner and Hernandez just doesn't seem to have the magic he used to.

We have plenty of cover up front. Wilson was the only player last night that looked half decent after the first 20 minutes and that was a small cameo at the end. I would much rather we gave him game time over Welbeck and Hernandez right now.
Wilson did look half decent when he came on. It felt like he was the only player trying hard for us. I would like to see Van Gaal use Wilson ahead of Welbeck/Hernandez as cover for Rooney/RVP. He needs game time to improve himself so we can see how good he is.

I'm trying desperately hard to think of anyone else who comes into the same category. I don't think there's anyone else who is homegrown/has come through our youth system who has tanked so much.

As I said to Spikey, I can't think of anyone else in the same category. :(

I think Anderson did have some quality but for whatever reason it never blossomed. Cleverley has always been awful IMO.

I hate Cleverley. I hope he never plays for us again. The guy is a joke. What ability he had (he did have some) has evaporated. He can't even pass the ball properly, he 'strokes' his foot through it and looks like a complete tool.

I don't know, Julian Laurens is convinced the deal had been agreed between the clubs for €55m. You only have to look at the figures in the press from the time of PSG's interest to when Utd came in for him, to when the fee was agreed. The price kept going up, with Real reportedly trying to even get £70m out of you.

A price for a player isn't just based on their ability, it's based on how much the selling club can get out of the buying club.

I think I'd enjoy that more than the film that inspired that! :D

Yep, my colleague and I were talking about him during the match and, as we have said at work sometimes, he looked very promising a few years ago. But it's like he's lost ability somehow. Not confidence but ability. How does that happen?

As we struggled to drive away from our parking spot near the ground my colleague was saying that one of the bad points from last night was that with Powell/Anderson/Kagawa failing to take the opportunity to shine is that it means Cleverley will be back in the team because he's not been shown up by anyone else in the squad.

I hope Van Gaal gets rid of him. I don't think he'll leave now but Van Gaal needs to make a statement next summer by getting rid of Cleverley. Perhaps even in the January transfer window!

Gibson is probably the other contender for that award.
We did get shot of him though. He made 31 league appearances for us. Cleverley's on 54. :o

I thought Powell played pretty well last night, he certainly deserves a shot.
He was OK I thought but there was a moment in the 2nd half when he could have and should have tackled an MK Don player, or at least presented more of a challenge than he did. He just appeared to sidestep out of the way and put his hands up half defensively making it appear to me like he wasn't interested in getting stuck in. I think he does deserve more games as he's only 20 and has only made 2 league appearances for us.

It's only defender gossip but the Telegraph are running a story that Spurs have clinched the deal for Fazio for £8m. I think most would agree that not many people get excited about signing defenders but this guy's a giant! If he comes he surely going to be one of the tallest guys in the league.

The only thing I disagree with though is that Chiriches will be on his way out. I can't see it personally, I think Poch wouldn't have seen enough of him because he's been injured. Much more likely is to see Naughton and/or BaE leave.
