quite a nice fit. i'll be sad to see Shinji go, though, if he does leave for somewhere new. Klopp showed the blueprint on getting the best out of him and unfortunately neither Ferguson, Moyes or LVG have been able or willing to find a similar formula.

It's so close now that I can almost taste it :D

Dare I consider who we might get in to replace him? I'd be keen on Wilfried Bony, though his play style is fairly similar to Costa and Drogba, so there's an argument to getting someone a bit different. We've been connected to Destro recently - could be an interesting alternative - younger and still developing, more nimble and less physical than Costa. Seems quite injury-prone though...

Frankly, it's hard to imagine anyone we buy being a downgrade from Torres.

Ramirez off to Sevilla it seems, disappointed he never made it. Another chunk of creativity out of the squad.

Be interesting to see who else City ship out before the window closes.

Richards - all city fans have fond memories of him. Especially that goal against Villa and the slip of the tongue afterwards. Shame he has spent so much time injured, a title chasing team cannot afford to have him in the squad.

Sinclair - always a strange buy. I liked him when he was out on loan from Chelsea and for a while I thought he would be a world beater. Hasn't really materialised though, whether that's down to lack of chances at City or just not good enough I lean towards the latter.

Nastasic - Had a great first season alongside Kompany and it was a shame he didn't really feature under Pellegrini, but was hampered with injury a lot last season. Sending him on loan may be the best option here as I can't see Demi having another season after this playing regularly. If Nastasic does return to form he will be good back up/competition for Kompany/Mangala.

Boyata - get shut, not good enough. Had enough chances.

Guidetti - Another kid I had high hopes for. The food poisoning/viral infection he had that rendered him paralysed in one leg for a period has really taken its toll on his career IMO. After a storming season with Feyenoord, he missed a full season and has never really got back to the potential he showed.

he may well have done but it's official. what a cracking bit of business, the door had barely shut from dawson's exit. nice to see us trying to sort the defence

You'd of thought LVG might have stuck a bid in for Fazio..

Exactly the sort of player they need... He won't set the world alight, but he'd be a solid improvement on the current CB options (Rojo aside). If and when world-beating talent can be purchased, he'd still make a solid squad player.

Bottom line is Man Utd need at least another centre back, a right back and a ball winning defensive midfielder.

On another note, Wenger must have lost a bet about 7 years ago where he had to deny all need for a world class striker and pretend he was happy with his squad!

Tbf, we do have Sanchez, Sanogo, and Cambell all raring to have a shot up front..otherwise they won't get played, the youngsters i mean.

You support Boro, Man U, Leeds and now Arsenal?!

He doesn't support Arsenal, he's saying "we" because he's having a trial there don't you know ;)

Sanogo is woeful, Sanchez isn't a lone striker, neither is Walcott, Podolski is the closest to possibly being good in that role but it doesn't really suit his game and Campbell none of us have really seen upfront.

However he did that thing where he looked really sharp in preseason, great in the world cup, looked decent last season so of course... Wenger barely used him and instead chose Cazorla at left wing where he was literally horrendous.

Wenger's usual thing of one player being good in a position, one being very very bad there... Wenger chooses whoever he likes the most rather than the most appropriate player.

WE should be selling Cazorla, having Campbell/Pod for wide left and buying a first choice striker, but that should have been the plan all summer and clearly isn't what Wenger intends.

Transfer spending in the last 5 years. #MUFC
Manchester United - £320m
Liverpool - £435m
Chelsea - £534m
Manchester City - £704m

Woodward just needs to learn how to sell for more money when you look at net spend
