Xabi Alonso to Bayern is official... bit of a strange one.

Seems to make more sense for Madrid than Bayern for sure. I do love how we dither for weeks over transfers and Bayern identify a target and get him within a few days it seems. Benatia didn't take long and nor did Alonso.

You really have no idea how long it took, both could have been going on for months. Alonso's time was up at Real and that looked clear for months, weeks ago at start or preseason they were doing stories about him looking underweight and lacking energy. He was also pap last year and they spent 30-40mil on Mendi as his long term replacement, but also have Modric and bought Kroos. It's very likely Real/Alonso have been looking for a new team for him since the end of last season.

Normally you would have a situation where a player in Alonso's condition(slow, lacking pace and now crap to go with it) would end up at Bolton, not Bayern.....

Okay sounds like Martinez has his second serious injury in two years and might miss a huge portion of the season, but with his pushing Lahm into central midfield last season and buying a CB, which leaves more room to play Boateng as a fullback rather than CB... it's just odd to get probably higher wage and well past it cover.

No brainer for Alonso, big pay cheque, won't need to play that much.. simple life. Had he been a stop gap signing for Utd he'd be playing almost every game and under a lot more pressure.

Well thats a crock of **** if you ask me

The only game where we didnt look like winning was the CSKA game - the two EPL games were pretty even and if anything we tested Cech much more than VDS was tested

Yesterday's game was so marginal , a different ref / assistants and Utd could easily have been up 2-0 at half time, the performance itself was right up there

People forget very quickly that we havent won at SB for a good number of years (admittedly a couple of them have been end of season where they wont alter anything)

We have also recently had West Ham, Liverpool, Man City all do the double over us (the last two both last season I think), and thats not including the individual losses here and there

Arsenal have got a gigantic chance without a doubt and while AW has won the league many times , and I guess Gallas and Silvestre have with other clubs - are there any players left in Arsenal's squad that won it with AW? Thats a significant factor if you ask me either way.

It also depends who gets bought by which Manager in Jan (I really dont expect SAF to buy significantly unless there are more significant /long term injuries, I suspect Chelsea will buy due to ACoN)

So the fact that what SAF said was correct is irrelevant yeah? (They arent GOD but if an independant panel of judges (MOTD) agreed that Rooney was onside, Valencia should have won a penalty and the freekick wasnt one in the first place - surely its only right that SAF highlights mistakes made by officials)

1stly There arent any well known wingers that where available during the summer apart from Ribery who was daylight robbery and is injured now anyway - who hasnt proved himself like Ronaldo yet BM want majority if not more of Ronaldo fee, which is just ridiculous (even if Ribery wanted to come to Utd which is open to question itself)

2ndly Nani isnt Utd quality , I agree but its unfair to berate Valencia I think he has done well and could well be a really good player for Utd and same for Obertan

No club (unless you have a Billionaire owner - not indebt by a billion either lol - or funded by Royalty , can afford to buy every member of the squad/ team at £20m + it just doesnt work (and usually they dont always work as a team either)

Carrick has won 3 EPL titles in a row with us, and most significantly arrived in a summer where he was the only purchase after we lost the league mainly due to our terrible midfield......I think that proves how good he really is. He hasnt hit top form yet this season by being in and out of the team like most other players but he is a very decent player . Also someone who plays 150 games before this season for the club CANT be bad even in these lean times!!!

Tevez was a waste of space (and a real waste of money at the kind of price being asked), his first season was great no question - 2nd season was spent whinging more about when he would get a proper contract rather than actually doing anything remarkable on the field. Berba hasnt worked I totally agree, he should have but it plainly isnt working and we would be lucy to get £20m back for him at this rate, but thats the only optioon I can see, Torres would have been excellent but he blatantly didnt want to come to Utd for whatever reason - and whatever happens at Liverpool there is no chance at all he would ever come now.

I'd imagine Alonso has dropped his wage to join Bayern. He gets to play at the highest level still, adds a Bundesliga and possibly another champions league medal to his name. Worth it over going to some lower level team for what would be at best the same wage he's on now, which i imagine isn't top bracket anyways.

Diego Costa out with a hamstring injury :(

No word yet on how long - Telegraph says "could be up to six weeks" but that's just guesswork based on the type of injury. I don't think any amount of horse placenta will get him fit for the Everton game (and we don't want to "do an Atletico" and bring him back too quickly).

I suppose we need to push through the Torres transfer now, and bring someone else in. Destro seems to be the chosen target, though some places are mentioning a one-year loan for Falcao (seems unlikely given the Real Madrid connection).

In the Chelsea press have you seen anything about Torres insisting on that massive payout to leave?

Just saw that - glad it's not more serious :)

Not so much - just the reports that have been in the national papers (e.g. Daily Mail).

The last I read, there was a deal in negotiation and the two sides were "2.5 million euros apart".

Got to treat those injuries carefully as it can follow him all season. What was costas injury record at atletico?

Good but hamstrings seem to reoccur very very often once you get one.

Look at guys like Smalling, Fabregas had the issue for over a season at Arsenal before he left and got over it shortly after being at Barca. Messi did his sometime last Feb/march or so and it troubled him and effected his game right through to the world cup final. He finally at the weekend looked like the old Messi, not the goals but the movement throughout. He was involved over 90 minutes which he hasn't been since the injury, he was chasing players down and sprinting much much more frequently.

Ronaldo did his hamstring and like Messi it's hurting his overall performances and causing him to miss games aswell.

Costa did his hamstring in what April or so, they rushed him back and he broke down in the final games of the season, was no where near ready. Managed to play for Spain and last the games but looked no where near as mobile or energetic as usual, same as Messi/Ronaldo.

It seems to take anything from 6-18 months for a hamstring to get to the point that you aren't constantly reinjuring it and it's not effecting your game while you aren't playing.

Costa was a risk in that sense, he looked to have good movement in preseason/first two games, but they probably should have rested him more. I think it's where after it reoccurs 2-3 times you get the player starting to play more carefully which makes them play worse... then they get reinjured anyway.

In that sense Chelsea needed a quality back up, though I think Fabregas could be a great option there. Good goals/shots ratio for Barca,(excellent in two seasons, decent last season), the only thing stopping him scoring 20+ a year in each season was that he only took 45-55 shots, his job was still primarily to give the ball to others. He can do the same role though, bring in all of Chelsea's wide/central attacking players and set them up with chance after chance, or take more chances himself.

As dm touches on, it's the fact that he's picked up his 3rd hamstring injury in 4 months that should concern you rather than the actual severity of this injury.

The way he was rushed back (twice) last season could have serious long terms problems.

R Madrid now favorites to sign Vidal apparently : /

This is just people putting 2 and 2 together, but it wouldn't surprise me. :p

I think his knee problems (and Juventus being stubborn) are going to put us off, sadly. We'd want a good deal at the very least, due to his knee, and we're unlikely to get that.

Juventus and Valencia are bidding for Javier Hernandez with #mufc minded to let him go for right price

Also hope the rumours that Villa have had a bid for Cleverley accepted are true. I'd pay them to take him, just get rid of him.

Dortmund interested in Kagawa again, too.

Give them £25m + Hernandez and we have done some good business. Not the end of the world if his knee is still shady at that price.

We need to get rid of Cleverley because if he is there, the temptation to play him will remain. Kagawa has never been as good as he was at Dortmund and Mata is much better in that position and we have Januzaj who should be backup.

Welbeck should be shipped out because he is never going to come good. Wilson looks like a cracking prospect and I would rather see him given a chance than Welbeck constantly disappointing.
