Herrera still injured and Rojo not got his work permit yet. Another week of Cleverley and Fletcher in midfield unless we can get another CM in the next 24 hours. Ridiculous.

I still think he should stay because him and Herrera were to offer us rotation of the same kind of deep tiki taka player in the midfield trio. I expected Mata to be the central with either Tom or Ander on the left or right and a player like Vidal in there.

But Di Maria actually changes all of this and leaves Mata/Ander instead with no room for everyone. I do not even know what LVG intends his strongest 11 to be anymore it seems like they have torn up the plans and are taking whatever comes along. Di Maria Mata Vidal is this the ideal midfield? Or is it Herrera Mata Vidal with Di Maria playing a Robben role as one of the two strikers? At least we could sell Hernandez and Welbeck this way and leave us with Rooney, Van Persie, Wilson and Di Maria as options.

That could be good and sell Hernandez to Juventus and nail Vidal and sell Welbeck to Chelsea?

Di Maria will play wide forward.

It will be one central striker, one in behind, two wide forwards and two sitting.

If he plays its 3 at the back at the moment its because we dont have any fullbacks available.

Don't see it. Di Maria is one of the best carriers of a football out of midfield in the game at the moment. That's one of the key things which United have been missing, and he'd be wasted out wide.

I reckon you'll do something like:

DDG

Rafael-Jones-Evans-Rojo-Shaw

Fletcher/Carrick (fitness and signings dependent)

Herrera-Di Maria

Rooney-RvP

With Mata switching in where needed.

United have accepted a bid for 8m from Aston Villa for Tom Cleverley according to Sky Sports.

I will give him a piggy back to Birmingham myself for that.

^^ Haha, I know - it's more of a 5-3-2, but I'd expect Di Maria to push on more than the others. Almost went with the 5-1-1-1-2!

This would be better:

Stick Carvalho where Carrick is, and job done. Just need perhaps a better centre back and more cover if we can get it.

I do not quite understand letting players leave a club without bringing replacements in.

Midfield; Mata, Januzaj, Carrick, Young, Cleverly, Powell, Herrera, Fletcher, Anderson, Valencia, Kagawa, Zaha, Fellaini, Lingard, Pereira, Di María ...

I would agree that the majority of those can and should leave Manchester United, but without replacements coming in I think it would be a huge mistake, that's true of the majority of football clubs though.

Would become Mata, Januzaj, Carrick, Powell, Herrera, Kagawa, Lingard, Pereira, Di María if we only kept the players that are half decent / have potential.

When we all whinge about having a **** midfield for years and no one there, we just mean that the people we play there are crap. We have loads of cover in CM but none of it is anywhere near the quality it should be.
