This would be better:

Stick Carvalho where Carrick is, and job done. Just need perhaps a better centre back and more cover if we can get it.

Won't work. You want a front 3 with 2 of them wide, so di maria right, xxx left, rooney central.

Like a 433. Di Maria in cm won't work. Replace with ball winners like vidal.

I do not quite understand letting players leave a club without bringing replacements in.

Midfield; Mata, Januzaj, Carrick, Young, Cleverly, Powell, Herrera, Fletcher, Anderson, Valencia, Kagawa, Zaha, Fellaini, Lingard, Pereira, Di María ...

I would agree that the majority of those can and should leave Manchester United, but without replacements coming in I think it would be a huge mistake, that's true of the majority of football clubs though.

Anderson, Cleverley, Kagawa - out.

Carvalho, Blind, De Jong(?) - in.

Assuming no Vidal. Maybe we've got other targets that aren't clear yet, we've kept things under wraps pretty well and the press have only found out what we're doing when we've briefed them.

No matter what happens, you'll say it's wrong, I've given up on you. Pure misery.

Not allowed.

How about an "everything BUT Man U" thread?

United rumours, team discussion, Moyes/LVG bashing etc already makes up 90% of this thread. It'd be great to have somewhere to discuss other teams without having to wade through pages of cack...

It's just the way it goes I'm afraid, even more so given the current 'crisis'. :p

The problem with tje formation is no natural width m either your full backs get exposed or one of the midfield trio goes wide meaning you then only have 2 covering cm's.

playing a wide front 3 solves all of those issues.

Only problem with that is we have mata who doesn't fit and kagawa. And not enough good cm's. If you want to see di maria tussling in the middle of the park enjoy. But what a waste.

I disagree on all accounts, but:

Kagawa is going back to Dortmund by the sound of it.

Di Maria is extremely effective in that position, arguably better than on the wing. You think he's there as some sort of generic central midfielder?!

What im saying is if he pushes up on the left? And we lose tje ball suddenly we have 4 players immediately out of the game (rvp, roo, mata, di maria) plus potentially a full back so thats vat least 4 or 5 players who will be behind the ball as they counter attack.

Why not unshackle di maria and put him up front and wide right, someone wide left and a striker meaning your central 3 cm's are all tough cm's who can also run and pass and not have to rely upon a rb/lb running up and down the length of the pitch all game in order to provide a sliver of width?

What we need to do is give Dortmund Kagawa and £25m for Hummels and give Juventus £25m and Hernandez for Vidal. Window done. League won. LvG worshipped.

We'll see what LvG does with him. I don't really want to start a detailed discussion (if you can even call it that) of formations in this thread.

If only. :p

Why?

Loads of teams succeed without a front three with wide players.

Di Maria was arguably Madrid's best player last season, and usually did not play wide.

why = look who posted it. it's inane ramblings that aren't worth contesting

Haha, fair point!

I was about to contest another one of his arguments, that you're best off "unshackling" Di Maria by putting him wide right. For me, that's wasting Di Maria, as Utd have no players who would be capable of getting the ball to him, and then supporting him, when he was wide on the right. They have effective players up top at the moment in RvP, Rooney, Mata et al. Their problem is that they have nobody who can bring the ball out of midfield. Di Maria can do that very, very well.
