Rooney and RVp just haven't clicked.

They did ok when they won the league, it's the positions behind them have have deteriorated so badly. I can see why it's a loan, when United fail to get top 4 he can bail and not spend another year in the CL wilderness and have someone else pay his wages.

Obviously though at least 2 more positions will be coming in today at united or this will be absolutely comical.

A loan? That isn't so bad as long as the fee isn't too high. I was about to lose it with united if we were going to buy him outright for £50 million +

£12 million for the loan isn't too bad. Especially when you consider he probably only has 2 more seasons playing at his peak anyway. Buying him for 50 million + would have been stupid.

Signing him on a permanent deal for any £30m+ is totally bonkers.

A £20-25m (including wages) season long loan deal is still a gamble given that he's just returning from a very serious injury but possibly a risk worth taking for a side that need a first choice striker (Liverpool pre Balotelli and Arsenal now).

For a side that already has 2 high profile strikers and are having to fudge their system just to fit them into the side, it just doesn't make sense.

If Utd don't come out of this window with a top CB and CM then you've got to wonder why. With the money they're spending on players they don't need they could have easily just paid whatever it took to get Hummels and Vidal.

One thing that comes to mind for Falcao joining UTD is to maybe play less so he can play more? No CL will surely mean UTD will suffer less injuries and fatigue.

The rumours circulating is that RvP needs to have surgery and will be out for the season, with Hernandez going out on loan, and Welbeck rumoured to be going out on loan for a 5mil fee, then this makes sense.

Also, Jamie Jackson is saying:

Falcao loan fee no more than £9m and #mufc have option for permanent deal

The remaining £3mil (to make the fee that most of them are reporting, £12mil) must be for his wages.

Can't say it's a bad bit of business if we get good fee's for Hernandez and Welbeck and RvP is out, it makes sense.

Oh and now Jackson says:

Loan fee for Falcao is closer to £6m plus his wages so minimum £16m for season...

So who knows :p...

Based upon nothing.

Its just a hunch.

Stats are not always the be all and end all of everything. If they were, then Stoke wouldn't have beaten Man City and Sturridge wouldn't have ended with 20+ goals last season in the league.

Based on nothing, but a hunch I feel. As I said, my hunch may end up to be shown to be incorrect. Only time will tell. So reign your damn neck in.

Reign my neck in? getting mighty defensive over a simple question. Hunches are also based off something, a cop has a hunch based on years of experience and a general idea of what is going on in some specific situation. Hunches aren't completely baseless, they are educated guesses based on some level of knowledge, what is your educated guess based on. Something in his game must have made you think "hmmm, that won't work in the english league", what was it? Or was it completely baseless. In which case it's not a hunch, but feeling the need to contribute so adding a pointless cliche to appear to be adding something to the discussion.

Well that escalated quickly! :D

It makes perfect sense and rival fans need to unbunch their panties.

RvP may need to undergo surgery which will rule him out for 6 months/a season.

It's a loan with an option to buy.

He's probably the best we could get in such a circumstance.

Keeping him away from City and Arsenal can do thoughts of a top 4 finish no harm.

A midfielder and a CB next please Woody.

Surprising signing IMO, obviously he's got a quality history but on the other hand a 28 year old who's only played a couple of of games after coming back from an ACL surgery has to be a bit of a risk. Would have been a completely bonkers signing but on loan it's probably worth the gamble for Utd.

I love how the reaction to as soon as a player is going to sign for us it instantly makes them a bit pants, overpriced, desperate etc.

It's great.

My educated guess is based on nothing, just a gut feeling. Just an odd sense that I cant put my finger on. Everyone has gut feelings about stuff in life. Anyway, I am not conversing with you any further.

I defer to your clearly superior knowledge on all things in life Drunkenmaster, I bow to your divine omnipotence. You are perfect, correct in everything and you have firmly highlighted with laser-guided like accuracy how ridiculous my words are. Your incredible encyclopaedic knowledge and infallibility will take you right to the top in life and you will stride above us mere ordinary humans like a leviathan. For me to attempt to talk further to such incredible intellect would be no more than the chitterings of an ant, so I shall spare us both the time.

Where's the stuff about RvP being out for months come from? Did he get injured vs Burnley?

Robin van Persie may be forced to go under the knife as fears at Manchester United grow that he may never be 100 per cent fit again without a dreaded knee operation.

The Dutch striker was penciled in for surgery last season after injuring his left knee ligaments in the 3-0 win over Olympiakos in February.

However, then-Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal persuaded Van Persie to delay the procedure and manage the injury with rest to ensure he was fit for the World Cup in Brazil.

Now, according to The People, United and new boss Van Gaal know it’s only a matter of time before they lose Van Persie to the treatment table for an extended period of time.

The news may force Van Gaal’s hand in the market, as the loss of Van Persie at any point in the season would leave United significantly short of firepower.

What is more fragile?
