In his current squad.

...

Wenger obviously know's what makes a good striker / forward given the forwards that he has had previously.

Wenger has tended to bring players in that represent good value for money, so maybe he feels there is a lack of value in the market at the minute, for instance a deal as such for Balotelli would indicate there is still good value to be had however on the other hand there are the Andy Carroll, Torres deals in the not so recent past.

Wenger has also picked up players in a panic before (Santos, the worlds worst left back anyone) and been stung.

Man United Falcao deal, the details: Man United only entered the race at 6am. They'll pay £12m now, but a permanent deal would raise outlay to £57m next season. Monaco are paying £150k of his £350k wage currently. City/Madrid were front runners last night, but Man United offered more as a total deal (£57m total), although not more in wages than City and Madrid. United will only pay the full £350k per week next season, so it's 12 million now as a 'loan' fee, then £45 million next season to make it permanent.
