If we can get Valdes in sometime in the next month or so (he's out of contract so can join anytime) we'd have had a very good transfer window.

rubbish day for the lane. Sandro going is just sad news tbh.

We are going to have to buy in January

Seriously? Your manager talks about being a heavily bloated squad, Sandro has barely been involved in 3 of 4 seasons he's been with you, he's crap, he offers little defensively or offensively(he bursts forward often enough to get you in trouble defensively and shots so much that you have to quantify if him getting forwards is worth the defensive cost of doing so), you got 10 million for a player what 3 managers didn't think was good enough. That is a cracking piece of business, most clubs would be happy to offload him for a few million.

Oh well, £16m down the drain. What a pointless transfer. I was hoping the window would close.

Rather we had no one than waste that money plus wages.

Oh dear, the transfer window started so brightly...and ends with Welbeck

Really Wenger...

Look at transfer values for strikers this window, £16m for Welbeck isn't unreasonable. He's still young and going by what we've been offered for Borini from 2 sides, if he flops you can recoup most of that fee in a year or 2.

At the very least Welbeck is better than Sonogo. Sure you could have got better but he's undoubtedly better than nothing, even if he just gives you a focal point for Sanchez et al to play off.

Apparently Amorebieta, Ruiz and Rodallega (by choice) are all staying with Fulham. Interesting to see how Ruiz fits in the team, he HAS to play if he does stay. Surely?

Ah, sorry I was convinced it was 6-1!

Smith gets his red card at about 35 seconds.

In actual transfer news that I had totally missed; Sheffield Wednesday sign Royston Drenthe.

It's a loan until January, can not pretend to say I have been blown away by him from what I've seen and read but hopefully Stuart Grey can get the most out of him.

Looked pretty similar to the Debuchy shoulder charge he did last week, the ball was no where near winnable, he's miles from getting there in time, the ball is gone well before he makes contact. Don't think he meant to smash him in the face but going in hard on purpose to just rattle your opponent can quite easily end up a shoulder charge to the face which can be really nasty. Think Debuchy was pretty lucky to get away with a yellow for his.

I really don't think Welbeck is that bad a deal tbh. Not the best striker in the world, but I think he will score enough goals to be worth it overall in today's market, if he is played.

Campbell looked good at the World Cup and apparently he was good on loan in Greece as well. I can only imagine signing Welbeck means Campbell is going to get even less game time now.

From the little I've seen of Campbell he seems very similar in terms of style to Sanchez. The Everton game showed how useful it is to have a proper centre forward right up top occupying CB's. Welbeck can do that.
