I was going to question that given that you've spent a fortune without signing a dominant midfielder or a decent CB but then I realised how bad your previous windows have been.
Eh? Blind IS a dominant defensive midfielder, Di Maria is a dominant attacking midfielder, Herrera isn't weak by any means.
Utd desperately needed, striking cover(Welbeck is rubbish
), a DM, a LB(at least one), a CB, a player capable of running with the ball in attack, providing good delivery, another central mid....
they got all those things and more.
Di Maria, Blind, Falcao, Shaw, Rojo, Herrera
They are all either already absolutely top class players, or very good players who are at an age that they can still improve further(to varying degrees). They got up to three players to help out at LB, Blind's versatility could prove invaluable.
He did what Wenger/Fergie had/have been unwilling to do, take the sentimentality out of the team. Welbeck... awwww, they've all known him since he was 8 or something, so he ends up playing loads but being on 85k a week, trouble is, he's ****. Fergie couldn't get rid of him, he came in, had a look at everyone, was fair, then told the crap to **** off.
It's also nuts of Nick to be banging on at length about 3-5-2 not working early in the season.
Firstly when LVG started the system, Smalling, Shaw, Herrera, Carrick and Rafael weren't injured.
If you take Chelsea's two fullbacks, cb's and central mid, guess what, they'd perform worse as well. If they were playing 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, or 5-5-0, or any other formation, losing almost the entire defensive line and the central mid would have caused similarly poor performances.
I honestly can't understand how anyone can say "iffy midfield" when Utd just replaced the entire central midfield. Di Maria, Blind, Herrera.... of the teams Utd have put out there will be what, 5 changes pretty much when everyone is fit to the squads that played, and it will be the 5 worst players in each of those games who will be not starting, replaced by excellent players. The starting teams so far this season will bear basically no resemblance to the starting 11 say 2 weeks from now, let alone 1-2 months from now when the longer term injuries are back.
I don't get how anyone could call the transfer window anything other than brilliant myself. Two players who are some of the best players in the entire world in those positions in Di Maria and Falcao, Shaw, the most promising(and already pretty damn good) left back, Blind, one of the most impressive DM's around, young and with more to improve, Herrera, an excellent player, Rojo, at worst a more than decent defender/fullback, at best he will improve and be an excellent signing in a position where all the existing CB's are injury prone idiots.
