City signing Sagna and letting Milner, Lescott,Rodwell, Barry, Richards and Sinclair all leave puts them in a poor position on the homegrown players rule. I'm sure I read last season they were borderline and with the rules only getting stricter letting Milner go would just be stupid.

Well Chelsea aren't maximized that's for sure and unless you're still assuming then you must know how the rest got on v the bottom 5.

1stly I didnt mention Chelsea as I expect them to be above Utd next season - 2nd you are equally assuming they didnt already

You're assuming that all the clubs above you won't improve against the bottom clubs either then.
.

Given the start of the season Arsenal had - they have a lot of points to "defend" in the 1st half of next season to be anywhere similar next Christmas

It could also be argued we won't get shafted by referees in two of the largest games of the season during the most busy period.

Of course Utd never got shafted for the same reason....

Certainly, lots of people putting United down as if they have no chance but equally others acting like it has already happened

As I said initially (or maybe it was in another thread) , nothing is a foregone conclusion, but there are a lot suggesting its nigh on impossible when out of any of the top 7 Utd have lost a lot of easy points this season through bad attitude of players / not being bothered in games. This is highly unlikely to happen under LvG (especially given that Rio has left, majorly at fault for some lost points and Evra not being able to defend. Vidic has also been at fault ealier in the season but came back strong at the end).

always thought Milner was a little like Barry in the quality stakes - good enough for a few years for a 6-10 placed team but a bit meh for a team aiming for the top spot (even as a squad player) but I highly doubt City will let a homegrown player leave this summer.

I'm not exactly a huge fan of Milner, but he would work quite well at Arsenal I think. They have plenty of creativity with Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla and Ozil - But they lack people that are happy to do the leg work in Midfield, I actually think he could do a similar role to what Ramsey does (pretty much play box to box), or he could even play in the "back 2" with Arteta/Flamini and help break play up.

They were fine this season, it's next season where they're going to have a problem.

In their CL squad they must name 8 home grown players which wasn't a problem as with 17 non home grown players the majority of the 8 were there just to make up the numbers, it didn't matter whether they were any good. Next season City's CL squad is being cut to 21 players and it looks like they still have to include the full quota of home grown players. That means they've only got 13 non home grown players to pick from so their home grown players can't be just there to make up the numbers. Hart, Clichy and Milner are the only 3 home grown players that Pellegrini really used this season, the rest either are completely **** or not fancied by Pellegrini.

Milner would be an excellent squad player, underrated by plenty of people. If the story has legs I would hope its done once we have our '1st choice' signings completed.

As long as he didn't cost the earth in wages, any team in the top 6 would be lucky to have a squad player like Milner. He is the sort of player that you need if you want to compete on all fronts in a number of competitions.

Perfect for United then.... :(

"Wenger reportedly has £100m War Chest" to spend in the summer, with James Milner top of his shopping list"

Heard these immortal words on the radio this morning and have a couple of issues with it:

a) Wenger has "reportedly" had this kind of money to spend every summer for the last 5+ years......and never spends it!
b) Whilst I rate Milner as a grafter, is any Arsenal fan happy that he is "top of their shopping list"????

Granted he costs Man City in the region of £28m when he signed but does anyone think he's now worth anything over £10m??? (taking out of the equation the "home grown" benefit!)

Meh ive stopped caring now, not going to get all wound up over who we will sign and who we wont...still enjoying our FA Cup win as it is.

I just hope Wenger for once in his life as a manager of Arsenal, doesnt do what he normally does and that is...last min panic buys like he always does.

He should know by now what we need in the squad ie top class striker, top class CDM, a top class RB and LB as Monreal is beyond useless and Gibbs is a perrenial crock. Could also do with a couple more CB's as i heard Verm is on his way out and last but not least a decent GK to give Chessers some competition.

Squad for next season;
Zabaleta, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Kompany, Nasri, Toure, Aguero, Silva, Dzeko, Garcia, DeMichelis, Jovetic

The 8 others needed could be:
Hart, Clichy, Milner, Rodwell, Richards/Boyata, Wright/HG GK, Huws and Lopes
I believe that would satisfy the rules?

If also as rumored we sign Mangala, Fernando and Sagna for example. Drop Garcia and Demichelis for them two, possibly even sell Garcia.
Sagna plays in all the cup games and rotates with Zaba for the PL. There is even a few rumors that Kolarov could be off so again take him out and put Sagna in. Mangala and Zaba have played LB before so not the end of the world to not have another natural LB.

Yeah as far as I can see, only one which I am unsure about is Lopes. He joined in 2011 so I think he may just make it?

If not then we will just have to register someone such as Devante Cole. I put Lopes there as he is the best player in our academy.

Making up the 8 home grown players is easy, you just pick a few youth/reserve players. The problem is City now need home grown players that will actually be able to do a job.

Of the 8 home grown players you've listed only 3 of them have played any real part this season and 1 of those reportedly wants to leave. Even if you keep Milner, is a squad of effectively only 17 enough?

I suppose they can just take the hit and accept they'll find the Champions League tougher/could get unlucky with injuries, for the one year this may affect them. They'll still have a reasonable chance of progressing, assuming they're not unlucky.

Of course they can look at it that way. I'd have thought the aim for City this year would be to put up a real fight for the CL though.
