It makes no sense to not sign Kroos though. How many 24 year olds posess what Kroos has? Fabregas and Modric and Oliver Torres and Thiago spring to mind but they are older than Toni or not available or not ready for first team football yet. Not only that his value is on a downward turn due to his contract.

£40m and £200k a week is an incredibly lucrative sum to possibly make a return on him. Maybe this is why LVG is having cold feet and realises he can turn to Cesc for less and return for Toni in January or next summer? Let's face it United will not care about him being cup tied next season will they? And you would be off your face not to try and get him to run down his contract. But if what they say is true about £20m LVG would be high not to take thier arm off.


His value would instantly go from £20 to £50m. And from Cesc's comments last season about not going for double or triple the money to United does it make sense to pull the plug?
 
I think Utd need somebody a bit more mobile than Kroos. He's a fantastic player, but your current central midfielders are so static. Thiago would have been an incredible signing. Koke would be very useful for you, and Cesc can do that role as well. Kroos will sit where he's told, defensively or attacking, and do an excellent job, but isn't going to take the ball and drive forward.

Just seen some of these - wonders if player just decided to ask for a much bigger wage packet than Utd were prepared to offer?

Massive turn around even so (given that Kroos was given his break by LvG wasnt he a few years ago)

I agree - he'd be a big improvement on what you've got, but isn't the step change you need right now.

Edit: He'd be a perfect player to come to Liverpool though :p
 
I'd be happy with Strootman, but he's been injured for ages (and still is). Bit risky.

Strootman and Fabregas it is then! :p

Vidal is the dream scenario.

Not really, Kroos had already played for Bayern and then was six months into an 18 month loan to Leverkusen when LVG arrived. It was during that next season at Leverkusen under Jupp Heynckes that he really established himself and got into the German national team.

It seems to me as though the press were briefed to say Van Gaal doesn't want him, as they all did so within the same time period. Perhaps Woodward is trying to force the deal through... I might be totally wrong though.
