Yeah, I'm not sure either. Chelsea need a "box to box" type central / holding midfielder to play alongside Matic. Fabregas is a great player, but I'm not sure he's that. We have plenty of options for attacking midfielders already.

... on that note: The Mail are reporting that PSG are offering £61m for Hazard. That's "silly money", but I still wouldn't want to sell. Certain players are almost irreplaceable, so unless he wants to push the transfer through Chelsea should hold on to him. Also... If PSG would pay £50m for Luiz then £61m for Hazard is well under-par.

Yeah, PSG haven't done themselves any favours paying waaaaay over the odd's for Luiz! They have basically set up any other club to compare his value to their player to eek out some extra dosh!

Looks like Real Madrid have decided to go for Suarez, the tapping up offensive begins: https://twitter.com/marca/status/474127206546153472

Maybe that's why Lambert was signed. :p

I don't see suarez going this season but looks like he will get another hefty pay rise :D The way the team is playing he has to have a go for at least one more season especially with CL football. Perhaps they are signing Lambert because the rest of the new income is going on Suarez wages ;)

I hate the media being given the freedom of bullcrap... fabregas probably has no interest in leaving barcelona. he was the ideal replacement for xavi and left one team that he absolutely loved to go to another that he loves and missed. he played a hell of a lot of games last year, scored and assisted many. and suddenly isnt part of the new plans?... its crazy... and why would all these prem teams be linked with him to then suddenly "not be interested"... i couldnt see him going to any english club other than arsenal, especially after wenger has signed another 3 year deal after winning some silverware.

my guess is that the media sites get paid for the amount of hits they receive, and at this stage of the year there is no actual sport to talk about, so they keep up the activity on the site by creating ridiculous stories and unsettling clubs, players and fans

On another note, i think the signing of lambert is to give liverpool a different kind of option, a bit of presence against some of the stronger centrebacks perhaps. an aerial threat who could maybe be used as squad rotation now liverpool will have 4 things to worry about instead of just the league. i cant see the first 11 lasting 60~ games... that is where arsenal falter year after year. the squad depth is terrible...

A lot of the Fabregas stories are rubbish but I think it's clear that he will be leaving Barca this summer. In fact, a lot of the stories are probably attempts by Barca and his agent to increase his transfer fee.

its a ridiculous move from them if im honest, the last few years at arsenal he was an absolute magician and offered so much to the team. maybe they are planning a new approach to the way they play football under enrique but i cant see that happening... it baffles me.
especially as koke is the player rumoured to be replacing him... the gap in quality is quite apparant

I'm not saying you're wrong because obviously we don't know, but don't forget that there's a new manager at Barcelona - plans can change.

i guess im just "flabregasted" at the prospect of him leaving there

I don't think the press genuinely know how interested different clubs are, I doubt any have clearly ruled themselves out just yet.

It does look like he will almost definitely be leaving. I think we'll have to wait until after the World Cup, though.

In other news, there's a small chance Muller might be available, and he has a great relationship with Van Gaal:

Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller says he expects to have talks with club officials over his future this summer.

Muller is one of a number of top European players linked with a move to Manchester United, where his former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal is set to take charge this summer.

Van Gaal gave Muller his first-team debut back in 2009, and he has gone on to become one of the best forwards in European football.

Muller is under contract until 2017, but he is expecting talks over his future, if Bayern want him to stay for the long term.

Speaking to German-based weekly news magazine Stern, Muller confirmed that he had asked the club for a meeting.

"I have reached the point where I want to know if I am an essential component of the Bayern Munich first XI for the new season and if the club has plans for me over the coming years," said Muller.

"That's why I will be out to have a meeting.

"I am not the type of guy that says, 'Alright, I have played a good part and will keep my mouth shut and everyone else is able to do with me whatever he wants'.

"As a Munich-boy your test at Bayern Munich is always a bit tougher, but we (those players graduated from the youth academy) are the grassroots of this club!"

Muller has previously revealed that he had a 'special' relationship with van Gaal and stated: "It's no secret that Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes a little beyond the normal relationship between coaches and players."

with the acquisition of lewandoski, and the rise of their natural wingers to fill in the gaps of robben and ribery, mullers place will probably be on the bench, so it makes sense to look for a new club if he wants to play regular football.

Being reported that Diego Costa has completed his medical and is now set to join Chelsea.

It appears that Atletico Madrid have reached agreement with Getafe for the signing of goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya on a three-year deal. So it looks as though Thibaut Courtois will be coming to Chelsea.

I can't see that - he's too good a player not to get in that team.

He's scored/assisted more than Ribery, Robben, or anyone else in the past two years. he's their best player, he's their most effective player, he just makes things happen. he had one meh season in 11/12, but was great before and since that season and all players have a meh season now and then.

Muller is so good I'd be hard pressed to choose if Arsenal had the choice of buying one of Muller or Fabregas. I think Bayern would sooner get shot of Guardiola than Muller, although financially it's easy to sell a player and you usually have to fire a manager.

We do see managers released and compensation paid on occasion though, it would be pretty uncomfortable but I would like to see a club at some point transfer list a manager and put a price on him. Guardiola can be yours for only 15million :p

:D and :D

I will be glad to see Courtois in the Chelsea goal... It'll probably mean that Cech goes, if not this summer then in January, which is a huge shame. But Courtois is at least as good, and he's 10 years younger, so overall it'll be a step up in the long term.

If Chelsea have Costa and Courtois for next season, sign a world class central midfielder (Pogba? Koke?), and don't lose any of their top players to PSG, then I think they'll be a powerful force next season.

A good-quality backup striker (Mandzukic?) and another left back (Shaw?) would be a bonus, but not essential. As a strike lineup I'd be happy with Costa, Lukaku and Ba.

... just waiting for the news of a Torres transfer now!

Hasnt Muller already ruled out United? As well as Strootman and Robben.

Robben has, and Strootman won't be bought in this transfer window, he can't play until next year due to injury.

I wouldn't take any people ruling things out seriously just yet anyway, they'll want the World Cup out of the way first, then we'll see what happens.
