trouble buyer on the bay

Tell him to allow the 15 days royal mail require before a parcel is lost. As well as the mail being delayed. It taken an item I got sent first class on monday till friday to arrive. Tell him to be patient.

Ah, if I remember right the place I bought the USB key from had me file a missing item thing with Royal Mail... I'd have him do that - and like the poster above says there's (I think) 15 days before he can do that.

yep its 15 working days too, which puts the date to 8th October. Just worried he'll get impatient and take advantage of my mistake of not having recorded delivery. Its a £150 mistake that I wont make again.

I had something similar happen to me. Though it was just down to the whole royal mail striking & backlog of parcels. The guy still got what I posted

Just a week late

Damn, that sucks mate.

I hate to say this, but even if it does get delivered there's a good chance that he'll try and screw you over by saying that he hasn't received it...which will probably result in him getting his money back and keeping the card too :(

ALWAYS send pricey goods by Special Delivery or at the very least Recorded Delivery.

I hope it all works out for you though mate, I really do (fingers crossed he's a good guy!)

If there's a way to do it, when you do issue a refund (if) then try to get it done through eBay so you don't have to pay their fees as well as lose your money.

If it's any consolation I hope it turns up lost in the post.

I hope it comes back to me at least if its undelivered, thats the only respite I could have with this mistake.

You'll have to have written a return address on the package for it to come back. Personally if you have any doubts about the guys elligiblity then string him along for as long as is feasibly possible. If he opens up a dispute answer on the last day allowed each time and hope he runs out of time to be elligible for a refund. *

*This maybe be morally suspect and if you don't get into heaven it's not my fault you took my advice

lol dont worry I will keep it going for as long as I can, something doesnt seem quite right with this guy when all the other buyers were extremely friendly and positive. Fingers crossed I find a 4890 in my post, I did write a return address. I hope if it does get delivered that the guy doesn't realise my mistake of not having it recorded delivery.

I've asked him to wait for the 15 working days to pass and linked him to the RM compensation page (I know it would be me who would file for compensation, but hopefully buy some time)

NEVER AGAIN!

The way ebay and paypal are working these days he's probably already received it, saw it wasn't recorded mail and spotted his chance to defraud you.
Absolute scumbags on ebay nowadays, I wouldn't sell used toilet paper on there :(
You have to cover every angle to protect yourself and as has been said, recorded mail is one of those angles.

This.

If it's £36 or under, send Recorded. If it's over, send Special Delivery. If it's too big to either, send Parcelforce.

Even then, with Paypal you'll most likely still end up out of pocket, it's too easy to scam.

The paypal account balance is Zero, however it's linked to my bank account =[

If I attempt to close the accounts and effectively do a runner wouldnt I be blacklisted?

I would think you would be by Paypal. But I think they will have ways of seeking redress from you, at least I hope they do.

You're jumping to a conclusion you're being scammed. And even if you are you don't know if it's the guy you sent the stuff to - could it have been the postie?

Blacklisted by PayPal yes. But who cares. They are a ruthless company only interested in filling their pockets. It'll have no ramifications outside that.

It's either that or lose the money. So I would suggest unlinking anything with PayPal. Once a chargeback is filed the account is frozen.

Refund him the money and tell him to return item on delivery (or pay money). If it doesn't arrive, claim £36 from royal mail.

Using unrecorded delivery on ebay is stupid. Since you can get scammed easily. Doesn't mean the buyer is lying though, you can never know. Considering the recent strike and cases where they are sorting normal post out on streets, it could easily go missing.

Also, it's upto you when to start using special delivery. I personally on items worth £90+ allow only special delivery.

Anything less, I think about whether its worth paying the premium over second class recorded. I've never had anything go missing in my life out of hundreds of things sent.

Oh dear sending an expensive item via 1st class...sorry but you are screwed on this one...just hope and pray he gets the item soon although with the strikes it might have been held up.

Good luck mate but honestly you will probably get told to refund him by paypal if he lodges a dispute.
