trouble buyer on the bay

Even recorded isn't enough to qualify for paypal seller protection, it must be tracked eg special delivery. Personally I reccomend SD anyway so the buyer doesn't ask you what is taking so long if there is a postal strike etc.

Yeah I meant SD mainly, it's all I used to send any item of over £40 value. But as long as it is recorded there is proof of signature, which is the main point.

You won't need seller protection as stuff thats sent recorded don't go missing!
I've sold hundreds of items on ebay and only ever use the 72p extra recorded option and have never had anything go missing.

Yeah but seller protection gives you protection against fraudulent buyers, recorded delivery does not protect against that.

To be honest, you would be better giving him a false tracking number. Then in a week say its been delivered. Would hopefully dissuade him from trying to pull a fast one.

Which is easy to avoid if your savvy! Personally I'm not gonna pay the huge increase in price for SD as the extra protection it gives you is not significant enough imho. I'd rather take the VERY small risk of using RD instead and stay more competitive than my rivals. Like I said I have sold hundreds of items on ebay and not had a single problem so it works fine for me.

They say a liar never believes anyone else! Don't judge others buy your appalling morals

First class isn't tracked though.

It isn't easy to avoid, there's no way of knowing if someone is fraudulently using someone elses paypal account to purchase your items. If your selling £10 items then you don't need it, but you'd be mad to sell a £500 laptop without protection, or in this case a £150 item.

When they ask for it to be delivered to a different address is normally a slight give away!
But I agree if your selling something for £500 then I to would most probably use SD as sod law dictates that the one time you get done it's gonna be for the most expensive thing you've sold :p
My items are usually <£200

Hey Guys,

I'm not going to do a runner, and worst case I'll have to refund and lose the card when the guy likely has it, based on my other deliveries being ok. I'll know in future to do recorded delivery or special delivery. I wasn't being tight about not opting for recorded delivery, what happened was, I turned up at the post office with 7 packages 10 min before closing. I wanted to get them all on their way for a speedy delivery. I forgot to say I'd like recorded delivery, I just said 1st class.

I did find it amusing reading about the racist remarks, we're basing everything on very little info that we have of the buyer, and trying to determine if I'm being scammed. Good moral dilemma though, should I pre-empt I'm being scammed and try a runner, if there were no consequences then I probably would, I don't trust this buyer, but I'm playing by the book, carefully.

From this point forth I shall only use;
RECORDED DELIVERY / SPECIAL DELIVERY / COURIER

They don't, peoples boyfriends/girlfriends use their paypal accounts without their knowledge to buy items then do a runner, which happened when I sold a games console. The buyer did everything by the book, paid through ebay, I delivered to their verified address, then a few days later it turns out that some girls ex used her paypal account without her knowing and then dissappeared which resulted in a chargeback from paypal, without seller protection I would have been over £200 down!

I'm glad to hear you're going to do the right thing!

Sadly you've learned the lesson the hard expensive way. At least you can take some solace from the fact that anyone reading this thread who didn't know this can happen on eBay will now use recorded/special delivery.

Fingers crossed it turns up!

I advise you to point the buyer to this ebay announcement regarding the postal strikes.

He normally has to wait a week, but this should convince him to wait an extra week. If it hasn't arrived by then, you have no choice but to refund him or wait for him to open a dispute.

I'm sure it will arrive if the buyer just waits a bit. Post very rarely goes missing.

Whatever.

This thread is a clear example of giving some cretin the benefit of the doubt for fear of causing offence.

If he doesn't like it maybe he should stick to shopping on ebay.pl

There's no point replying to this. I really hope you're trying to be funny.

Thankyou! very helpful link
I've sent a further email, hopefully he can hold out.
Might be worth noting I've sent the item from Glasgow, I can imagine worst case where the item passes through multiple striking districts.

Hi,

An update I found some more information about the postal strikes
http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200909.shtml#2009-09-14135718

Its possible the item has passed through several districts which were on strikes at different dates,
"cross-country mail services will be severely disrupted"

I apologise for this, it must be distressing not recieving the item yet, distressing for me too,
please be patient for a little while longer, you've been very patient already.

Let me know when the item arrives please.
Thankyou for your patience.

Best Wishes
Craig Burrows.

Well there aren't any.

Lets assume you empty your PP, then the buyer initiates a reverse charge. PP go to your account, see the funds aren't there, and push you into the negative.

At this point, they try and recover the funds from you - but guess what? You're under no legal obligation to put anything in there. In fact, Paypal can't do anything to make you.

You'll likely get some pretty nasty letters from them, and on the odd occasion you might get some debt company coming to the door, but as Paypal are a load of thieving, brainless morons they can't do anything without a court order, which they can't get because they're just a load of idiots playing at being a bank, which they're not.

So it's up to you if you want to do that.

My opinion? You were (and are) a complete loon for sending it untrackable and unsigned for, given the value. But, assuming you're telling the truth that you sent it, i'd take the money out initially and wait to see what happens.

things get lost, my m8s 4850 got lost in the post a while back.

140 quid down the drain just like that.

Maybe you should stick to posting on Stormfront.

And what do you tell him when he asks why he can't track the item with that number on the RM website?
