trying to get steady 4ghz

I now have an RMA for my RAM. Will be buying my Corsair and sending the Patriot stuff back. Thanks to all for your help getting my CPU stable. Just a shame the RAM wouldn't play nice =(

madindehead & Dysfunctional have you tried disabling these options in the bios?

C1E
CPU TM function
Speedstep
C-state

This has 'seemed' to fixed my memory problem, in that flash videos are now not crash whilst running the memory at correct speeds. Give it a go a see if it helps, maybe my memory isnt faulty then??

Hey all

This is my first post following a friend recommending the forum. Given my new system and my efforts to get to 4.0GHz, I thought I'd post my settings

Motherboard = ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme
CPU = i7 920
Clocked speed = 4.0GHz

Settings

CPU Voltage = 1.31V
CPU PLL = 1.92
QPI/DRAM = 1.35
DRAM = 1.64
BCLK = 200
CPU Ratio = 20
Memory = 1600MHz
UCLK = Around 3400

I would suggest reading this thread for tips. It takes time. This took me 4 hours to get stable!

Just ordered my Corsair XMS3 1600MHZ RAM. Be here tomorrow, so going to see if it can handle 1600MHz then ^^

I am very sure it will my friend. Just tested my new 6GB at 1600mhz and 4ghz. Absolutely no problems. The Corsair ram itself is very good stuff.

Sweetness. Hopefully it will be good for me. I'm just really hoping my IMC isn't the problem. But I don't think it is, as it wouldn't run the Patriot RAM @ 1600MHz and stock CPU settings. Can't wait for this Corsair RAM. Sounds epic.

Na your right , Your IMC is not the problem at all. It was that bad batch of Patriot ram a few seem to of got lately. The Corsair will put this right im sure. The IMC only has a limiting factor for some with all dimms occupied. Depends how good your i7 chip is i guess. Many can go all the way 12GB , 4.2ghz 2000mhz ram even no problem. Just fine individual chips.

Just a wee update here. New Corsair RAM is now here =D Off to install, and then test these babies @ 1600MHz!

Ok. I installed my new Corsair RAM. All seems fine. Set the multiplier to 8x. Once again, same problem as before =( Then...I discovered I was a giant idiot. For not setting my Uncore multiplier to 2x the RAM multi. Boots fine @ 1600MHz. Now just need to run Prime95 and LinX with full memory.

What did you have the uncore set at with the patriot memory then?? As they are the same speed as the xms3, or did the uncore multiliper reset itself when you removed the old memory?

I was going to check that one lettuce. However, with the uncore at 16x and RAM multi to 8x the Patriot RAM would crash during Prime95 blend.

This Corsair is running fine so far. I will test it properly soon. Ran for around 1.5 hours fine. Need to run longer later.
