TV Licence Super Thread

Finally ditched SKY and therefore ditched the license and got a refund back for the rest of my annual fee until July.

It is such a stupid and archaic way of doing things now.

I won't be watching BBC content again until they introduce a reasonably priced monthly streaming option (I would be more than happy to dip in and out and watch some of their content if they did that).

There is such an absurd amount of content to watch on Netflix, Amazon, Disney, NOWTV and Apple anyway, regular TV is just not needed anymore.

If they don't change their business model soon, they are going to drown i the sea of change that they never bothered to buy a boat for.

Wouldn't miss the BBC at all, the sooner it dies, the better.

Haven't paid for a TV licene in years. No intention of doing so either, I don't watch live tv so I don't need one. Wouldn't give the BBC a penny either now.

They have a set of around 7 letter templates they use to get you to pay (scare tatics) When they get to the last template, they just go back to the first template and start again. It's laughable. Bin the letters and ignore them.

Bbc is tearing itself apart trying to serve all it's masters
- Gary Lineker doesn't have right to speak out about the divisive home secretary language on immigrants - to back the principal Brexit/brexiteer motivation
- bbc reports the Matt Hancock 'excerpts' verbatim damming the govt Covid response, without seeing all the in context evidence
- meanwhile BBC director go between for setting up Bozo funding
Do they think all these things balance out.

The BBC's problem at the moment is they keep aiming their content at young demographics that hardly watch the BBC.

So they are losing older people, who actually pay the licence fee.

Some of the new shows they produce, most are absolute crap. I'm not surprised young people don't watch them. They are insulting to their (or any reasonably minded persons) intelligence.

So many tv Licence dodgers on these forums
Anyway why don't the bbc just encrypt the tv licence and iplayer, don't pay you don't get simple:)

I think because if they did that they couldn't tempt people to break the law, and fine them for doing it! :D

BBC is basically same cost as Netflix. It is notTo (for me) any where near as worth while. Its obviously becoming a common theme. Else there wouldn't be such a decline in subscriptions

Dont the older people actually get free TV licences now?

Look I know I'm no expert on all this perpetual BBC nonsense and I am no freeman of the land either, but isnt it about time the BBC were scrapped and license fee scrapped forever too?

BBC. Fox News, pair of disgusting corrupt lying company's.

How can we get rid of them is what we should be asking ourselves, not how can we live with them.

That's an extremely good point. They're alienating the very demographic with their woke programming that actually pays for it all

Also they don't buy any of the top shows anymore. It all goes to Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ etc. There is just nothing worth watching on the BBC. Not even most sport. Most of their own stuff is garbage.

The last two things i watched until recently were Top Gear and nature shows, but since Clarkson left and nature shows started sucking Greta Thunberg's **** there's nothing left.

The problem is they can keep making crap while they are given free reign to bully the public in to paying for it, with tax money on top. If no one watches it they don't lose out like commercial stations and it's execs still take massive wages.

The BBC cronies know that if they were ever to have to show adds, or go subscription based, to pay their own way in the world, they'd disappear faster than a wig in a whirlwind.

This story popped up on my feed after I'd posted earlier;

George Sirrell, 93, owed the money because the cost of his licence went up and he didn’t notice for a month.

He was told he would not be allowed to watch TV unless he paid the 1p he owed before February 24 – despite the letter arriving after that date.

I think if a pensioner has money, not claiming any benefits, then they still have to pay.

If there was an easier way to give pensioners an alternative the BBC licence would collapse.

They are robbing old people of their money because they know they can't use newer technology. So it's either pay up or your sat in a room likely on your own day in and day out.

It should be a criminal offense to pick on a vulnerable group like that.

Not had a TV license since I moved out of my mums, I currently have a folder absolutely rammed packed worth of notice's, warnings and threats from the TV licensing scum about;
- They know I dont need a license as I have filled out their online form every year for the past 6 years (stopped doing it in 2020 as no point, they dont take notice)
- they do not believe me and will send an agent - if I dont want an agent turning up, here is a payment form
- they do believe I am watching and using content I should be paying for

I have kept every single letter and warning they have sent me and frankly welcome an agent to turn up at my door these days. its not fair to take it out on the agent, but people got to get their frustrations out. The agent will be welcomed indoors to prove I have no need nor intention to use their cruddy services, they can then take all of their letters back and deal with as appropriate (after they have been marked as returned to a TV licensing employee) :).
Their tactics are 100% bullying and trying to force guilt and a crime out of the recipient of said letter, its very easy how the grown up with no technical ability would just continue and panic at some of the nonsense they send out.

The agent will be welcomed indoors
Bad move. They aren't Agent Smith from The Matrix, they are salesmen with no power, they make commission on selling you a TV licence or putting you forward for prosecution. They have been known to lie. Just shut the door; don't talk to them.

Just put the letters in the bin and move forward with your life.
