The other cars I am looking at are the Volvo C30 T5 (weird boot), Mini Cooper S (from what i see not as reliable) and BMW 130i (probably too expensive for a facelift).

I mean I also looking at the Z4, TT and all that but realistically, they are in a bracket more than i like to spend for one of recent age and miles.

Love the FN2 and EP3 arguments.

Drive both and buy which you prefer?

I personally prefer the EP3, but that's my driving style.

Saying that if I had 9k or there abouts I'd not buy an FN2 that's for sure, it'll be worth about 5k in a year or so

In the process of changing the timing chain, what a job !!!.

This was measuring to see how far it had stretched. All going well and the car actually starts, I'll be sticking up the whole process of this in 1080p.

I do like the look of the TT (even with the infamous dull driving feedback), but cost wise it is almost double to the FN2 of a similar age and condition. Albeit I am looking at the 3.2 Quattro. It cost about £12k for a 08 TT compare to about £7k. I do realise they are very different cars.

I discounted the S2000 (even though i do like it) is because it has a soft top and 2 seats. I have found the extra back seat useful in the past 2 years, sure, not every day but enough to make me miss it if i didn't have it.

My mind is not set yet and any car I buy I would like to keep it for a couple of years so I want it to be the right choice.

What are the servicing cost like for the FN2? How much is a full and intermediate service from the dealer btw? and is 30mpg achievable on average?

An FN2 achieves more or less the same MPG as an EP3

my stats currently are as follows:
Best consumption on a motorway run: 32.6MPG
Average summer fuel consumption with mixed driving: 25MPG
Worst Road Use fuel consumption was 18.5MPG
Track Day was 14.64MPG

Thanks for that, servicing sounds reasonable and not all that different from my Yaris from Toyota, only the 6th (75k/5 year) service that is the big one, the rest seems standard. I paid around £140 for the last 2 service and the one next month I have been quoted the same for the 40k/5 years service.

Mileage wise it is a little lower than my Yaris, according from Roadtrip, over the course of ownership of the car I got 39mpg over 16k miles distance. Going down to 25mpg would be a 35% jump cost, more if the car uses 98ron (I currently use 95ron), but I guess with the amount of miles I do it isn't that critical but would be nice if it can hit mid 30's.

I do realise cars of this calibre, including the C30 T5, (or the Mazda MPZ which I forgot, should add to the list), MPG isn't high on the agenda and one don't look into these cars to save petrol money.

I'd be looking at the 2.0 petrol turbo TT raymond.

On the back of my mind I want the 4WD and the sound of that V6.

Although the performance between them isn't that much different from what I've read...oddly enough.

The REAL curveball choice would be something like this.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...id/2c929990370d8a4401374f97a4d908f3?logcode=p

Which is still too expensive, over my budget at the moment and for that kind of money I can get a 3 series, so I keep going back to the FN2/C30/Mini Cooper S.

yeah seems really strong now, oil usage is hard to gauge as I work and live on a hill. I just change Oil/Filter every 6k or 6 months whichever is first.

once it's back from the garage I have a 282/262 upgrade to bolt on and a toe/camber kit ready for a shakedown test at Bedford

...well after trying an FN2 as a potential cheaper alternative to another MK5 R32 and not liking it...

..I've since come to realise I'd rather not tie so much money up in a car and have now reduced my budget and will begin searching for an EP3 which I owned several years ago.

It's only for 5mins drive to and from work daily and the odd blast out at a weekend shopping or what not. It's an ideal little town car but should be enough fun to blast when I take the fancy.

Get the bolt on mods for the EP3 and it can hold it's own amongst quicker cars.

Yeah I used to own a Milano 2004 facelift, I loved my GruppeM intake, glorious on VTEC :)

Quite looking forward to going back to something light and chuckable.

Don't forget about the ATR and DC2, both just as cheap and more capable.

I adore the DC5s but have never been in one or even seen one in the flesh. I would actually consider upping my budget to get a good DC5 but given they all appear to be 200+ miles away its a long journey to view, let alone buy :(

Did you prefer your Tegs over the Civics?

200 miles is a few hours drive, man up!

You will have to drive around to find the best example and the one you want.
