Type R and VTEC owners

Silly question, when testing out a type R, being that I've never had a car with vtec (yo!), what am I looking for when it changes cam? I've read that low or poor oil will stop the change over, don't want to be getting a duff one.

Is it properly noticeable?

Which car are you looking at?

Number one is check it doesn't bellow out smoke when it hits vtec! Where are you based? Might be worth taking it to a specialist garage for a once over once you think you've found a good one.

On sat I'm just going to look at '02 one, since I don't want to drive a long way for something I really don't like, and from what I gather the vtec-ness can be marmite.

If I do like the style it will be the grey one in the link I posted earlier. Only one I can find advertised with air con and I think a FSH for a "techy" high performance car is prob a good thing.

there was a dude with a cosmic grey premier edition [worth it just for the recaros tbh] on here looking to sell iirc

*cosmic grey is the best colour

EliotG i think it was

Yeah I have a Cosmic grey premier. It's grown on me a little now the weather has warmed up but I still wanna get rid. Checked the oil and coolant and stuff the other day and in 6 months it hasn't used/lost any. Runs great. Just still not the car for me.

Well today I decided to put my S2000 up for sale, always toyed with the idea of buying a flat to rent out as a long term investment and I've decided to go a head with it so will be using the money to cover part of the deposit.

Just stuck it on Gumtree for now to see what local interest I get then will be off to PH if nobody bites.

Anything you would add/change?

Already arranged to go and view a couple of 182's at the weekend which look fairly promising. Not wanting to spend any more than 2.5k.

Might have to think about some pads and discs for the S2000 soon.

Pad wise I'm either sticking with Honda standard pads (although not been impressed with the wear rate so much on these) or going with some Yellowstuffs as they have been good for me in the past, but what discs do people recommend?

Seen some posts around about the Brakes International discs being decent and they are pretty cheap, but what do others recommend?

Just fast road (if that) type driving so no need for anything extreme ;)

the same tyres as are on the back.

having mismatched tyres isnt the best idea.

general all round/summer use - RE050A
track and fr use - AD08

So I bought a 2003 Civic Type R last Sunday and finally moved insurance over today. Absolutely loving it so far, so fun and rewarding to drive and feels like a go kart going round corners.

Got a few little niggles to sort out;

New Type R badge on rear as the current one is worn / tatty for some reason

New gear knob - not decided on whether to fit another OEM one or go for something like a weighted Skunk2 yet.

Air Con isn't cold so I'm assuming it needs a re-gas / service

Very happy so far anyway :D

I did a fair few track days in my s2k when I had it. Brakes wise I found the best setup I had was

Rbf600 fluid
Master cylinder brake brace
Honda pads
Brakes international discs

I did try other things, including ds2500's but I just preferred the stock pads. On track you'd have done several laps before they died (4-5 at bedford as an example ) and by died, really I mean 'started to get a bit of fade
