Type R and VTEC owners

Thanks Will.

Actually, on the way home from shopping today when I drove by the local Honda Garage I saw this on the lot.

Had a look and it is almost almost immaculate, there is 1 tiny what look like tar on the bumper but no scratches that I could see and I couldn't even see any stone chips. Alloys looks very neat, 4 matching tyres with plenty of treads and couldn't see any kerbing on the wheels. The gear knob could do with replacing though but overall the car visually looks very clean.

Unfortunately being a bank holiday and 4pm near closing there was only 1 guy on the premises so no test drive today, I intend to go back next weekend for a test drive. I did ask him about a quote on my car and he went on Glass and mention something about £4,850 and retail for £6,000 I think I can make him stretch to £5,000 for mine. Considering what I could get my car for on AT, £5,000 is very reasonable I thought, last dealer I called up offered me £3,200!

Now, some advice if I may, considering the above Black 58 plate one is on sale at only £300 more (although that car is 70 miles away) so lets just think its the same money to make things easier. The question is how much should I go in at with an offer, after a test drive if the car is good.

Part-ex + £2,500 (max £3,000) ? Would that be a high price to pay for a 57 plate FN2 with Sat Nav?

Also, would you ever consider 19" on an FN2?

Which year did they introduce LSD on these?

I wouldn't want 19s on an FN2 myself, the ride is harsh enough on 18s, I have a mate with an FN2 who had Rage wheels (the 19 inch option pictured above) who changed back to 18s for a while as he get so fed up with the lack of ride quality).

LSD did not come until 2010, Championship White Edition cars excepted.

I'm confused by your part ex values, without knowing what car you have its hard to see whether its a 'high price' or not given I don't know how much/how little they are fleecing you for part ex :p.

That silver car above is perhaps a little expensive for a 57 plate at the sticker price, however its got 19s which seem to be sought after even if it makes it ride worse, it has sat nav, its in the colour which seems to hold its value the best and stonechip the least, plus its a Honda AUC so its warranty is actually worthwile, and if its as immaculate is you say, then it seems a fair price to me.

I would accept £5,500 private for a quick sale so their offer of £4850 part-ex is acceptable and actually quite favourable, he said he would put the car back on sale for £6,000. So with £2500 cash I'm thinking total value I am offering is £7,500 ish for that FN2. My argument would be there is a newer car for practically the same sticker price not far away.

I do have reservation about the 19" wheels but will see for myself I guess. Especially with the potholes around here. And tyres for 19" is closer to £200 each vs about £130 for the 18" but that's not be all and end all.

The car is in great condition, actually I would say the paintwork is probably better than my Yaris (stone chips and a couple of scuffs from previous owner).

What level of audio options does the FN2 offers and how can I tell which one is has?

The speaker quality is average, it goes loud enough, plenty of treble but its lacking in bass imo.

The tyres do make a bit of noise on the motorway yes, more so than the 255's on my Jaaaaaag, it could be annoyiing to some, but I forget about it after a while, or turn the radio up.

I just picked my mine last weekend (see pics in "show us your motors"), I have been out for a pointless drive every evening since. I will add this is such a great car puts a massive smile on your face when your acting 17, and feels like a proper drivers car when your not.

Not changing the subject but what mod's if any do you have to get the 215bhp?

To get 215bhp on Powerstations rolling road it had a mugen cold air intake system and the flashpro map (with the basic group n map that lowers the vtec engagement point to 3800rpm).

I say 'had' because I ended up crashing it :(. By which time it also had a milltek cat back exhaust and a custom map from vitviper, so was possibly around the low 220s. Now its dead and I'm waiting on an insurance settlement....!

Will, without seeing that car in person, based on just what i described, if you were making an offer, what would your opening offer be?

Just want a starting point.

Sorry to hear about that, bet your gutted!

From what Ive read the Flashpro doesnt give anymore power as you say it adjusts the vtec engagement. Can you explain the Group M map to me as I've seen this floating around a bit?

They say a standard car has between 205-210bhp so I guess thats a good gain out of just induction

I sold mine privately in March this year for £7500 after owning it just 5 months, one previous owner who had the car since new, 2007 and 32K on the clock

Add the Rages and the fact its from a main dealer and its not far off, personally I'd want to chip him down at least £250 but if the car is an immaculate example then personally I always think its worth paying for

Watch out for the rusty roof and door issue on these, 07/08 models have a very high chance of suffering from it

I'll try car + £3,000, seeing there is a 58 plate for £8699. That's the aim...

Btw, what is the built in sat nav like ? And what is that number above the gear knob mean?

Thanks, oh, I also notice there was a iPod connection cable inside that compartment by the number, are these standard on all Type R?

One thing I do think I am not a fan of is where the cup holders are between the seats, right between the arm rest and gear. I would imagine if you have a tall bottle the drink would get in the way.
