Type R and VTEC owners

Indeed. I think i would prefer the Focus RS over this. The facelift Focus is an extremely handsome car in my opinion.

Loxy had one (ST, not RS obviously, but the same model). He wasn't impressed.

I'm sure many people have trouble free ownership but in 5 months I went from loving the car to just wanting to get rid.

Illuminated sill plate blew on pick up day, which took out the electric window switches due to it grounding the circuit to earth. This was replaced on warranty.

Lacquer started peeling on the plastic trim on the tailgate. I had a good old ding dong getting this done as I was told it wouldn't normally be covered as it's trim and that warranty is 1 year on Ford's. I successfully argued that it should have been picked up on the car being prepared.

Main dealer kerbed my front o/s alloy when replacing the sill plate.

Power steering failed during driving when the car was on 14k miles. Needed a new steering rack, replaced on warranty.

Main dealer lied about it having a 4 wheel laser alignment after the new rack and after two visits about the car not being right after the work I took it to an independent at my own cost to find it was toeing in massively on the front.

Confidence in the car and dealership now at an all time low.

Final straw was the illuminated sill plate blowing again, but not taking out the electric window switches this time. Told it wouldn't be covered on warranty as it was counted as trim. Raging.

Sold the car after 5 and a bit months losing just under £3k.

It was the 4th Ford I had owned and by far the worst in terms of build quality. Cracking car to drive, which makes it even more of a shame.

It surely is, I love how Ford took the risk with those squarey curves which in my opinion are just pure sex. That's why I'm such a fanboy when it comes to AE86 Trueno, pure sex on wheels. :D

FD2 is the only good looking Civic imo.

Really not a fan of the black wheels and not really a fan of the overall look of the car compared to the concept(stick on plastic vs actual styled parts) but for some unknown reason I am starting to warm to it.........

Not really a fan of that look, it reminds me of that look that is made for US market for the average US mother that is looking for a reliable low-mid range sedan to do some shopping and pick up the kids from school.

No offence to FD2 owners. :D

The last Civic I think was good looking was the EP2-EP3 after facelift ofc.

for me EG was and IS best looker.

What about legendary EK9? EG6 not bad looking either, I'm just saying that EP2-3 were the last good looking Civic's IMO.

Edit:

Watching this now, but I still want to see this new civic vs focus rs 345bhp AWD.

Agreed. What's amazing is just how good the EP2/3 looks compared to the 5 door versions which seem to have been designed to look just like a particularly lardy MPV.

Sat in the Type-R last night whilst picking up my new car, Rochdale Honda took delivery of it the same day

It was Championship brown and in all honesty I think I'm getting old because I didn't like it, after all the looking at pictures and wanting to see one in the metal I was kind of underwhelmed in a way that I hoped it would look better in person but it doesnt, it looks very plastic and a bit silly IMO I found myself looking at the new facelift Civics which I think look really nice compared to the pre facelift 9th gen and wondering if a Type-S model with a smaller Earth Dreams engine will ever see the light of day

Looking forward to Saturday. Having some bits fitted:
Öhlins coilovers.
RAYS CE28N.
AD08R.
Spoon monoblocks.
Eibach sway bars front and rear.

That'll do nicely.

It's an interesting one this, they've effectively created a gap for a circa 200-220bhp iteration which they could call the Type S and it seems like they've got a potential engine for it with the 1.5 (or similar) too.

Can't see it coming to the 9G, but I suspect they'll launch a model in that mould with the 10th gen

I'm still hoping they'll do a 9G Type-S with an earth dreams engine, the 9G is about half way through its production life now though so your likely to be right and it'll be the next civic. Hopefully if and when it arrives its got over 160bhp, isn't over styled and hits the sweet spot of a functional everyday warm hatch

Needs to be in the power bracket of the FN2 imo, after all it's still much the same basic car - plus there would be too much of a gap between the existing 1.8 and now class up Type R

Maybe, would just leave an unusual gap (though there's hardly a breadth of engines available at the moment - can't understand why they didn't at least redevelop the 2.2 diseasel)

If you think about the Focus for example, you've got 1.5t @180ish, 2.0t ST 250ish, RS 300+. Similar sort of jumps in the Astra range. As much as Honda may want to kid themselves they are a bit more premium, these are the civic's competitors so they need to start bringing out some comparable engine/trim levels.

This guy is right about most things, its a shame really as I like Honda just like other Japs.

The new Civic's front to me isn't bad, but the side view of the car and the back is just ugly AF... :(

I would love to see a alternative to Fiesta Zetec S or ST, in terms of size and price. The newer Civic is comparable to Focus, Leon and other bigger Hatches, right?

Edit:

So Seat has, Ibiza and Leon
Ford has Fiesta and Focus
VW has Polo and Golf
Vauxhall has Corsa and Astra
Renault has Clio and Megane
Well you see what my point is...
