Type R and VTEC owners

I am yet to see it as he drives a ****y old diesel clio to and from work as obviously the civic it too precious to take out for commuting.

He's actually thinking of selling it but also contemplating going to shows again with it.

Always dreamt of a supercharged Accord 2.4 CU2 manual (Rare cars to come across), along with Quaife LSD, Naughty looking cars that deserved a performance model, If I had the cash I'd do it in a heartbeat.

8 pot brakes, bet they're really good for parking up at shows.

I think it's more of a new thing with him, new dad, last job would get £10k bonus a year, doubt he's on £25k here.

Expense, rarity etc I can understand not taking it out all the time or every day use. I know TTS had it on some track days testing it etc and he definitely drove it when he first had it.

Still, my point is that 8 pot calipers are complete overkill on an EP3, even at that power. I bet they're K Sport or some other brand as well.

Yep the fans were definitely running, as you say they're silly loud. You can feel the car vibrate physically a lot more when they're on.

Didn't realise that, thanks for the info. Cap seems to be on fine, I should also mention the noise went away when it cooled..

Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look this afternoon when it's cooled from this morning.

Currently living in abject terror of getting caught in a jam now.

With regards to possible issues, do you mean with the temp. creeping up or not starting when hot? I assume the former just want to check.

Sounds like your cooling system needs a once over and service.

When was the last time the coolant was changed with genuine type2 coolant? Something that gets overlooked in car maintenance. Coolant should be changed every 5 years.

I suppose that depends on the person and what they value, I'd rather have overkill brakes on my car than ever risk brake fade like I've had on my GTI.
A friend of mine managed to set fire to a set of the cheaper 4 pot and above brakes... on the road. AP/Brembo/Alcon 4 pot is likely to be much better but some people think more is better.

Just sold my 16 plate Civic DTEC. Country lanes and too many pot holes and bushes avoiding tractors so passed it on for something cheaper.

Bought an 08 plate Civic Type S with the 1.8 VTEC. 44K on the clock, full FSH with Honda for £4800. Banked £6.5k in the deal.

Should be a bit more fun with less worry.

Those are the daily conditions my Type-S endures and it just gets on with it, has done for 4.5 years. Not a panel without a mark on it and I have not a care in the world. Mine has significantly more miles though!

Had my Civic EX (or ES, I never remember) for just over a year now, put just shy of 30k on it in that time, half of which is A & B road commute, other half is motorway trips at each end of the week. Seems to be getting on fine! MPG averaging about 42/43; as much as I like Hondas, may have to look elsewhere in the new year for something a bit more efficient!

Yeah I get the same mileage from mine (but I do like to thrash it quite a bit), problem is everything significantly more fuel efficient is either a turbo'd 1.4 (ew!) or a diesel with a turbo (double ew!).

Ive had a late 2006 2.2l diesel for a good 4 months. Put on 4k miles already and just past 166k miles ohboy ;P been flawless apart from a brake issue.

Its rare but when i apply the brakes every so often my rpm drops to like 800 and sometimes stalls. Its 100% related to the brakes as if i let go of the pedal revs shoot up to normal and its fine again. Any ideas?

Am asking as am looking to get it mapped upto 190bhp and the last thing i want is the brakes dying on me ;p

Does it do it when you're at idle or when driving? Older Civics used to have an issue where the brake booster diaphragm would split / leak. Because it's tied in to the intake it gives a leak path for your air, causing a lean air/fuel mix dropping the engine speed. I assume the FN series still use one otherwise braking would be a bit hard. So yeah, I'd be looking at brake booster / master cylinder / vacuum hose. :)

Glad I found this thread , just a question regarding my ep3 .. my ep3 had been suffering from misfires for quite a while and Farage said it was probably low compression as I changed all the plugs and coils but then a few months ago I did a complete oil and filter change and the misfire disappeared not long after ?

A xenophobe and a useless mechanic. :p

But in seriousness, if the garage you use suggested it is "probably low compression" before suggesting/trying new plugs or coils, then you need to find a new garage because they are either completely clueless, or trying to make you part with lots of money for no reason.

When you say "not long after", how long do you mean? If it were plugs or coils I'd expect the issue to subside as soon as they are changed.

It could also have been a fueling issue, so if you replaced the fuel filter, that might have had an effect, but I've personally never known a fuel filter to get so gummed up that it causes a bottleneck.
