Tyre Nichols murder

Surely he has every reason to resist/run away since he was murdered for it?
If he had complied initially would he still be alive, or did his actions 'enrage' the 5 ex cops to the point where they thought 'f it, let's beat this fool until he's pretty much dead'

disagree.
I feel the point being made that although the officers are black, there is clear police policy or culture in play that they are additional aggressive or violent with certain individuals backgrounds. I've never seen 3 police pull someone over with guns drawn for a driving infraction before. Only if the stop has gone badly and escalated.

Beating someone to death is horrendous and there's no justification for it, but black people commit far more crime in America, so Police definitely do treat them differently for that reason. If you were a US Cop you'd very quickly adopt the same attitude, not because you hate black people, but because they are far more likely to present a risk during a routine stop.

Not excusing the officers actions but the guy didn't do himself any favours not complying with instructions.

Instructions for what ?? - 5 police officers started shouting for him to get on the ground etc - From reports/written information and the footage at no point do they tell him what he's actually been stopped/arrested for. The guy clearly feared for his life and human instinct is to run / get away. (Police initially said Mr Nichols had been stopped on suspicion of reckless driving, which has not been substantiated)

The way it played out, he would have been battered/beaten anyway as the 5 cops clearly were fired up and ready for a "fight"

So 3 officers and guns drawn for what should be a routine traffic stop is acceptable because he's black and black people commit more crime? (havent seen evidence to back that up, jail stats are not fair to use for this)

Justifying it as their job isnt really acceptable regardless of profession, if they have such a problem with black people as you said its clearly their policy and culture to treat them that way, maybe should look closer to home as to why black people hate the police in the first place. Hint, its because of **** like this combined with constant and consistent over the top and violent approaches against black people of all ages.

I agree that he was passively resistant on the initial stop. Why would you not comply? American cops armed with all sorts, just get on the floor and show your hands, surely!? I would. Even if I hadn’t done anything wrong, I would comply entirely with instructions.

The treatment post detention is disgusting.

There needs to be a whole shift in training/recruitment/professional standards in American Policing.

In first interaction, one officer is forcing an arm round his back and screaming at him to lay flat, whilst another officer is pressuring his other wrist in a way that would never allow the guy to move, let alone lay flat.
He was asking questions yes, I dont see him resisting, he was forced in to place and then screamed at to change position with 3 men on top of him controlling his limbs.

If you haven't seen evidence then it won't take you very long to find it. If I were pulling someone over in certain areas of America I would *definitely* have my pistol drawn because I want to go home that night and people carry guns and have little regard for their own life, let alone mine. I'm not suggesting this about the guy beaten to death by the way, just this is a reality in parts of America. You're talking some of the most dangerous cities in the entire world, including places like South America and Africa.

So going to tar everyone with the same brush because of stats?
Good job you are not a cop, sounds like you would too be overly aggressive with a gun when its not needed for a minor traffic stop. They had no right or reason to behave in the way they did.

So, you're not really drawing your gun because it's a black person, it's more the area you'd be operating in is considered very dangerous and it happens that it is primarily black people that live there.

I wouldn't be in the Police because statistically I would be safer raiding Al 'Qaeda houses with the Navy SEALS than pulling over suspected drug dealers in some American hood.

I dont recall anyone bringing up the start of the video, he is being pulled over for a driving infraction (according to reports ive seen), yet there is 3 officers all with weapons drawn, for what should be a minor traffic stop.

Right, and what happens if that minor traffic stop happens to be a guy who is on his third strike or on bail and the moment and decides **** it im not going to jail today. Thats at the core of policing America. In the UK if someone pulls a gun on you for a random traffic stop you will probably be the only one this year. If it happens in the US you wouldn't even be surprised. American police are rightly twitchy when it comes to interacting with potential criminals. They are doubly twitchy when it comes to dealing with people in a crime hotspot.

There is nothing wrong with taking every precaution as a cop over there. The issue is when they then act poorly when they know they are not in danger.

Its a minor traffic stop, regardless of area I have never known it to be police practise to be guns drawn first.
He hasnt refused to stop, he hasnt done anything at this point apart from maybe changing lane without indication (we dont know as there is no proof of what the infraction was), guns out drawn? Even for America this sounds hilariously ridiculous.

There is nothing wrong with being safety averse and and there is plenty of evidence available online of how US cops are trained to deal with traffic stops to improve and maintain their safety, none of them involve walking up to the car with gun drawn. This only becomes the case in escalating scenarios or officer identifying a weapon.
Again, routine stop (as no confirmation of them identifying him as someone with a weapon, traffic violation) with 3 officers stopping the stationary vehicle, they all go guns out first. This is not the way they are trained to behave for these type of stops, regardless of area.
Those aggressive

I can't tell if you are serious or just really have 0 idea how dangerous it is for the police in the US. You treat every incident with the public with the potential to end with them shooting you because anyone could have a gun. If you don't take this precaution you will probably end up dead at some point in your career. There is a huge difference between taking precautions and killing someone who isn't a threat. One is sensible and what you are trained to do and the other is criminal and illegal.

I know exactly how dangerous it is.
Again, this is not how police are trained to dealt with these situations. Minor driving infraction, 3 officers assisting in the stop.

You realise more US Cops were killed in America than Soldiers in Afghanistan during the 20 years the US was in Afghanistan? There's zero chance you'd be a Cop in the US, yet you want to tell them not to draw their guns when they're operating in some of the most dangerous cities in the world.

That is perfectly fine up until the point you’re telling your detainee “I’m going to knock you out”. No cop should ever be using that sentence. Then proceed after the second detention to swing hayemakers when one cop already has him hold and stomp him on the ground whist also being still detained.

It seemed to me they just wanted to inflict damage and were looking to create either a situation or excuses to facilitate that.

These cops are just bad, they should all go to prison and none of them should ever be aloud to be in a position of power over the public ever again.

How dumb are Americans? I mean yeah ok, silly question, but how many times do they need to see this stuff? They STILL don't lay on the ground when police tell them to.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not on the polices side (I'm the last one on here to defend the police), but when they say lay down, you damn well better lay down else you're gonna get killed.

He managed to get free at one point and started running. That sealed his fate there and then.

I'm surprised there aren't riots, but maybe they've simply accepted it now. Riots haven't worked in the past, so give up?

So it’s the American public that is wrong and not the overly violent mindset of some of their police?

I really don’t see how you can say ‘how dumb are Americans’.

They beat the guy literally to death. It’s disgusting.
