UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 23rd February 2023]

I don’t understand the shock in the result, Liverpool were outplayed in large parts of Saturdays game against 10 man Newcastle and if we took our chances we could have got a draw, initially I did think that Liverpool had dropped off 10-15% when we went down 10men but it turned out we upped our game and Liverpool really aren’t very good this season

The funny thing is that Ancelotti would probably be the perfect manager for a team like Chelsea.

To manage all the stars that they have, I agree, 100%.

However, it seems the higher up doesn't want that kind of manager, they want someone who is "up and coming", for a long term project, to mould the team. As opposed to a Champion's League winning, titles winning, top tier manager.

If Tuchel doesn't fit in, I doubt Ancelotti will, with the owners.

That seems to be the line they are taking but their scattergun recruitment doesn't seem to scream "long term stability and success". They have just blown massive money on some alright players but I don't believe for a second that Potter was at the core of those buys.

No, I personally doubt he had any input in most of them. They signed so many wingers and if 1 position they don't need reinforcements, that's wingers. He also said in a Press Conference some time back in the the middle of January that they can't sign anymore players.

Sorry for DM link

Then they blew another like £200mil after this.

What stars do Chelsea actually have. They have spent crazy amounts of money on potential youngsters?

I do not see any players who compare to a Chelsea Eden Hazard for example. They have big players like Thiago, Auba, Felix but no stars.

The only potential really good player they have is Kante but he is injured?

Aub is down the pecking order. They nearly sold him in January

Would you be happier if I said "they bought a bunch of really big players who are expected to be playing regularly"?

I find it weird that clubs keep paying him silly money when he clearly isn't all that any more and I would assume has serious attitude issues. Got dropped from Arsenal squad despite being easily their best striker at the time, I assume because he was a bad influence. Went to Barca for 10 minutes and was soon sold to Chelsea. How do clubs keep doing this with certain high profile players.

All I am trying to say is when you look at Chelsea's squad I don't see anything that really jumps out at me and makes me feel wow. Apart from maybe Kante.

They have spent a crazy amount of money but it is all just disjointed. I know it is a very Souness thing to say but where are the leaders?

I suspect it’s a case of ‘he’ll do better for us, it’ll be different. He seems alright to me’ sort of approach.

I would assume so but that seems to almost never work out and then you have a player on a high salary who is not only not positive but likely quite a negative influence. You can see how much Arsenal have changed since they got rid of the egos in the dressing room.

Oh absolutely, it's just plain stupidity from people who are supposed to have at least an inkling about football. It's a funny mindset, but people always think it must be someone elses fault and they'll be the ones who can polish a turd. Fixer syndrome, isn't it? :)
