UEFA Champions League/Europa League 2010/11 Matchday 4 *** Spoilers ***

Still not top though are they? In a league that they have dominated for years.

That's 8 goals conceded in 4 CL games isn't it? Hardly impressive, especially considering he's taken over the defending champions and has a group with several clubs with little to no CL experience.

To be fair, 6 of those were to the mighty Tottingham Hotschpurs.

Bale was good tonight, he's an exciting player to watch. That game suited him well, but he still did well in tight spaces vs Maicon which isn't easy, it's best to judge him over the season probably since he won't get as much space ahead of him in every game, and if he can play consistently well in different environments he deserves all the applause. We saw with Lennon last season that Spurs wingers can get a bit over hyped after a spell of great form but Bale does seem better than he was.

Lennon suffered a very lengthy spell out to be fair to him. Was on fire until then and then needed time to get back to form, and then had a bad WC along with the rest of the squad.

Fair enough, why don't you give the same consideration to Walcott ;)

yeah exactly, i think once a player (especially pacey players) get injured it mentally affects them, they take a back seat sometimes, because all that is needed to harm a pacey player is to just clip him when he's on full throttle. before his injury he would take players on at will, now he tends to cross or pass the ball more.

he is slowly coming back though, the whole team is slowly jelling maybe need a prolific striker and steven gerrard:D

LOL at this from before the game.

Tottenham's Rafael van der Vaart and Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder have already started their Champions League battle: off the pitch on Twitter.

The two Dutchmen, who are good friends and began their careers together at Ajax, have begun the banter with some amusing exchanges on the site, ahead of their clash at White Hart Lane on Tuesday.

Sneijder kicked off the battle with a message for Van der Vaart, who missed the first match through suspension, saying: "I'm cleaning the Champions League trophy with a Tottenham shirt." But Van der Vaart replied: "Thanks for cleaning it up for me. I'm already creating space in my cup cabinet."

Sneijder has since upped the ante, claiming: "We're gonna [sic] give you a football lesson in London." But Van der Vaart retorted: "I met your defence in Milan, it didn't look good. It was like cheese with holes in it."

Inter scored four goals in the first match and Sneijder used that fact for the next barb, joking: "I found a good goalkeeper on eBay. Shall I send you the link?" But Van der Vaart replied: "We don't need him, you won't come into our penalty area!"

Sneijder also mocked English football claiming it is all about power and athleticism not skill and technique and took the mickey out of Van der Vaart's goal from a few inches out against Everton.

He said: "In that country football is a game where you have to run as hard as you can from the one end of the pitch to the other, isn't it?... Nice goal, but even my six year old cousin would have scored this one."

And Van der Vaart responded: "These goals also count but at White Hart Lane against you guys I will score from every angle."

Inter look like a completely different side under Benitez, defensively inept, and for the life of me I will never understand not starting Milito. Meh.

What I have learnt from tonights game is Rafael > Maicon !

Bale played well...but Maicon played very very very poor, which made it easier for Bale to do his thing.

As a Man Utd fan I have to say I love the way tonights game shows how good we were on the weekend

Hate to admit it but spurs played well and are becoming a decent team.

Few things though.

Bale is never going to get away with that every time I cant see the likes of bayern/barca/rm/chelsea/utd and co letting him do it, he will have a much harder time.

They need a new striker I had to LOL when i see the line ups. Spurs - Crouch...... Inter milan.... Eto'o im sorry but crouch is poor when you look at the players now around and behind him.

Spurs replace him with a top quality finisher and they will be more of a force. You see Eto'o goal? Something Crouch really is not capable of doing I mean look how he screwed up his shot/pass when it could have been 2-0 earlier on.

How many strikers could though? That was the kind of goal from virtually nothing that just screamed class.

You don't think that's a tough group? It's the closest after Group F imo.

Played poorly 2 European games in a row, against the same opposition? Awfully big coincidence. :P

Spot on! Bale's youthful pace took Inter apart and to a lessor extent, so did Lennon.

and as for the Nani -v- Bale debate, well personally I think Bale in more exciting to watch but then I'm slightly bias. Interesting to see Utd fans on the defence when they are out of the spot light for one evening.

That may be the case, and I for one don't really rate Crouch, cannot wait for Defoe to return to be honest. However, whenever Crouch plays VdV scores, and if that keeps happening I won't complain too much.

Also, 23 goals in 47 (0.49) European games isn't actually too bad for someone like Crouch. Especially when you compare him to a striker of much better quality in Fernando Torres who only has 14 in 41 (0.34) European games. When you look at that he doesn't scrub up too badly. Eto'o by comparison has 34 in 76 games (0.44).

Even though he is better than the rest as scores more in less games than those strikers considered a lot better and at sides considered a lot better I still don't rate him.
