UEFA Champions League/Europa League 2010/11 Matchday 4 *** Spoilers ***

They have only conceeded 4 goals in 9 domestic games this season - that's pretty good defensively to me.

Its the Italian league, plus they've conceded 4 goals in 5 games against top half teams, and conceded non in 4 games against the bottom half teams, though tbh, the table in Italy is a mess right now, a complete mess, the bottom 4 are already on 8 points in 9 games, when you'd usually have a few strugglers on 2-3 points, same in the league here, our bottom teams are much better.

They are playing very bad football, and their defence is getting worse by the game.

BTW, top 3 prem teams have scored 27/22/22, top three spanish teams, 25/19/17, German, 23/19/21 , top 3 Italian teams, 13/11/14. La Liga/EPL have played a single game more than the other two. Italian league is low scoring which rather by default means goals conceded is lower than the other leagues. Newcastle have outscored the top three Italian teams, the top scorers in the league actually have 18, Newcastle have outscored them by 1...........

Its Benitez's old game, trying to over control players, was Maicon at fault or was Benitez telling Maicon he had to get forward the whole game. Seriously, almost any other manager would have told Maicon to stay back and put someone defensive on the right who could help cover, double up on him, I think given the choice in a football manager role for Inter tonight 98% of football fans in the world would have made that choice. LIkewise I really can't for the life of me understand Lucio's decision to run out to him, they absolutely played intho his hands every time.

I don't love Bale , I don't hate him, he didn't do anything even close to unexpected a single time last night, thats whats baffling, what did he do, ran the outside and got a cross in from very deep....... every time...... I'd expect a league 2 side to expect and come up with a plan to counter it and Benitez ignored it?

What's the name of the LOTR song in the ridonculous italian vid, been wanting to know it for ages but googling 'dun dun dunna' doesn't really work :(

Give Bale his kudos, he played a great game against Inter last night and was simply brilliant in the first leg. Although his league form hasn't been great since the start of the season, he's only 21 and still developing. I'm glad Redknapp has finally just put him on the left wing rather than toying with the idea of having a fantastic wingback who can't defend like previous coaches Bale has had throughout his career. Glen Johnson should be the same, just put him on the wing, rather than wasting his talent by making him defend when his natural game is to attack. I don't even know why comparisons are being made between Bale and Nani, yes they play on the wing, but have far different skills and talents.

to me, bale has the advantage of power and some pace plus good stamina. but he is still an A to B player.

against a fast strong defender, he will struggle.

Nani has pace, maybe not the physical strength, but he has trickery on his side, so even against a tough fast defender he will still be able to create. Plus he has the powershot of doom and can hit the odd free kick, making him useful in a number of ways for man utd.

Good solid win for the Spurs last night...didnt think they were going to win it but was pretty shocked at the terrible defending by Inter in all honesty...under the Moaning one that would have never happened. Maicon for some odd reason just couldnt be bothered to defend which i found surprising.

Bale has really come on in the last few weeks...first his stunning hattrick at the San Siro then last night setting up a couple of goals..

Good win for the Spurs

Not knocking Bale as it was a great performance however I've never been convinced that Maicon is the best RB in the world (just look at my world XI I picked a while back in another thread, I didn't actually name a RB because I couldn't think of any standout candidates at the time). A good wingback maybe but.... I'm sorry, you can't just let the guy continually run past you, once or two is forgivable, not 5 or 6 times.

The problem that Maicon had was that the guy in-front of him (Biriyani?) wasn't helping out at all. Maicon was often having to deal with Bale and Assou-Ekotto. Even the centre-backs couldn't come over and help because Van Der Vaart was playing right up with Crouch.

Yeah, Benitez failed massively tactically and made the game Bale's to take, but Bale still had to take advantage of that and did it in convincing fashion. Still, Benitez made a pig's ear of last night, set Inter up awfully

tbf to DM there's been a few people in Italy questionning Inter under Benitez, he's not exactly won everybody over.
What's Benitez winning over people got to do with what I quoted? :p

The argument that their defence is getting worse is utter ********. Inters defence has had their best league start for decades and they've still conceded fewer goals than they did under Mourinho even if you include the Champions League.

Whilst we'r on the topic of Benitez and Bale.
Funny to think a few years ago, when Bale couldnt even get a start for the Spurs reserve team..
Benitez had a deal lined up for Bale, he was going to be played on the left wing.. but the yanks pulled the plug () and the deal fell through.
Cant speak for this forum, but Pool and Spurs fans alike on other forums i used to frequent used it as a hammer to beat Benitez with for ages, his 'lame' transfer policy.
I mean, Bale is a left back, and not even any good! Would never make it..

Oh the irony.

Care to cite a source to that, it sounds complete BS. Benitez might have had Bale on a wish list, but that is far and away from having a deal lined up.

Fair enough, guess I got it a bit off. I have only watched them a few times but they looked typically solid in the league, obviously massively weak against pace as we saw in the CL.

Believe it or not, potential doesn't earn you the right to start every game.
