UEFA Champions League/Europa League 6/7/8 March *** Spoilers ***

Its difficult enough to compare two strikers/goal scorers from different teams in the same league like RVP and Rooney, let alone comparing two from completely different leagues (who have never played in the same league, or in the other one at different times for that matter)

Complete and utter twaddle

Arsenal did brilliantly in the 1st half but valiantly failed to kill them off in the end, probably the best result in the end (given their precarious league position, they need all their concerntration until the end of the season on the imperative CL spot they need next season)

With the Spurs result and this one, it will give them a good team spirit for the fight to come

Played Arsenal, shame we couldn't quite make it over the finish line but a valiant attempt. Thought everyone played great apart from Gervhino who needs putting down, how he is a footballer is beyond me.

I agree that every time (almost) that I've seen him he's looked pants. At the same time, look at his goalscoring record in the last few years:

Year Club Apps (Goals)
2006–2009 Internazionale 88 (57)
2009–2011 Barcelona 29 (16)
2010–2011 → Milan (loan) 29 (14)
2011– Milan 20 (18)

The last 3 seasons haven't been that impressive tbh, you'd be looking for at least 20 goals a season given the money that has been spent on him down the years.

I think the fact he only lasted a year at Barca says it all, he may rip through the crappy teams in Italy but La Liga and the Premier League are a completely different level and for all the impressive bits you can pick away from those above stats there's still plenty of games in the Champions League against the very best opposition where he's been found wanting.

LOL, one time he tracked back to his own corner flag, won the ball but then did a drag back TOWARDS THE GOAL WHEN HIS OPPONENT WAS GOALSIDE, jesus H christ time and a place lad time and a place.

i even saw Walcott track back and won the ball. to be honest, every single player on the pitch played with heart and determination. They all tried

Great performance! Shame about the first leg, if only that thick lump Djourou didn't have to come on and give away a penalty/contribute to the collapse.

Now to get third

I'm going to guess that you, just like a typical commentator/Sun writers etc. only watch Ibra in the CL knockout games? See him dominate Palermo at the weekend and finish the game in the first half by himself? Or any other game this season? Or of any season?

Was an awesome match and was completely chuffed at my mate getting us club level tickets for free from one of the partners at his work!

Absolutely amazing atmosphere and for me going back to aus soon potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity!

...Also sorry about the image size earlier , posted ti and ran as I had just gotten home last night and did it from my phone. My bad.

You're absolutely correct in recent years I have only seen him in Champions League games but you say that like it's a bad thing? Is not how he fairs against the very best opposition not a truer reflection of his ability and application? There are plenty of strikers who are bully boys that turn it on against your Palermo's but the very best do it in the biggest games as well and like I said in recent years of the very biggest games I've seen him put in a performance twice, both were against Arsenal and lets be honest Shola Ameobi could cause Arsenals defence problems on his day.

You should watch him more then you'll have an informed opinion, rather than laugh when people compare him to Rooney, who incidentally has never had a bad game ..

lol wut?

How is that a reply to what I said? The stats prove he scores goals in Italy, I dont need to watch him do it for my opinion to change. I have seen him play countless times in the Champions League and as I and others have said he's failed to turn up time and time and time again.

You really are unbelievable tbh and I dont think you really realise how absurd some of the things you say are, you're always the first to slate Rooney even when it's completely irrelevant to the topic at hand but then you throw a school girl hissy fit whenever anyone dares question your beloved Van Persie and now you're kicking up a fuss about me not rating Ibrahimovic despite there being clear evidence (that not only myself can clearly see) that he fails to deliver time and time again on the biggest stage.

You need to have a word with yourself

He scores goals everywhere. He wins leagues everywhere. He's a great player. I know this as I watch him regularly.

There's loads of evidence of Rooney failing to deliver for months on end, several times in his career, I don't see you highlighting this ever. Yet Ibra has a few dodgy games (last night was hardly his fault, he got no service at all) and he is 'the most overrated player in the history of football'

Really?

:/

I agree. I watch Ibra regularly too! Great player and mental fun off the pitch.

Reminds me of the Andy Gray line about Messi 'Well he's not that good as he's never done it against an English side'

Indeed, people form their opinions from what Jamie Redknapp and the Daily Star say then are astonished when people challenge this opinion. Listen to stupid people and you will attract derision.

Tummy casually whipping out the Nietzsche quotes

My dad was pretty happy about the win last night, for the first time all season nearly!

T'was a good performance and win. Megson hangover still running deep though, far too many long balls still if I'm being honest.

The defence looked shaky and midfield lacked something, I can't decide if it's a leader or composure.

Wednesday would have scored a few more goals had it not been for poor finishing.

I dont highlight Rooney's bad patches? Of course I dont, why would I? Do you ever highlight when Van Persie has been anonymous? Of course you dont. No supporter up and down the country highlights the negatives of their best players voluntarily. Liverpool supporters dont highlight their best player's constant need to dive do they?

Barca obviously made a mistake signing him, that much is proven by the fact that despite the massive outlay they sold him a year after signing him (at a loss) so despite him claiming a league title for his year there take that away (because I'm sure Barca wish they could remove the transfer from their history) does this stat about him winning titles where ever he plays really hold that much weight? Take the La Liga title away he's won a couple of titles in Holland and the rest have been in Italy where he's always been at the best club at that time (hardly surprising when to give him credit he's proven in that league). He was at Juve when they were the best side, they obviously got relegated and he went to Inter who then by default then became the best side and then when he went back to Italy with Milan he had the fortune of going there when Inter were being ruined by Benitez after Mourinho had overachieved with them.

So far in his career and quite rightly so any praise for Ibrahimovic for what he's done in Italy needs to be balanced out with what he's failed to do for Italian teams in the Champions League. Some may argue that's because the Italian teams as a whole are shown up in the CL and that that's not Ibrahimovic's fault which may be true but the overriding question has to be why did he fail in Spain and why have no club in England ever taken a punt on him (and why have Barca for one season only, been the only side to take a punt on him in Spain)

I thought Ibra did pretty well against Arsenal in the first leg.

He didn't leave Barcelona for 'just' footballing reasons.
