UEFA Champions League/Europa League 8/9/10 March *** Spoilers ***

AC Milan are 5 points clear at the top of Serie A. They're a decent side.

They are decent, although they have a bunch of players that aren't eligible for the CL this season that are starters in the league which make them a bit stronger, like that ever loved Van Bommel.

Even so, there's a general consensus that the Serie A is going worryingly downhill and is behind - in no particular order - the Prem, Budesliga and La Liga in terms of quality (and is definitely last in terms of the pace of the game). Inter won the league 5 years in a row till Jose left, never the sign of a strong league (see Lyon in years past). Haven't they lost one of their CL places to the Bundesliga?

All the Italian teams in the CL finished 2nd in their group, some barely; Roma got dumped out on Tuesday quite comfortably, Milan yesterday, and it would be no surprise to see an Inter team that've been a pale imitation of the ruthlessly efficient Special One side last year go out to Bayern next week, being a goal down and playing away.

This isn't to downplay Spurs achievement, but bar Inter last season (and only last season because they weren't that great in previous years), beating the big Italian sides hasn't been a daunting dask. Even when we beat Milan 2-0, with Maldini, Kaka and all those famous names playing, they weren't at the level they were in previous seasons. Fulham (no offense, Fulham fans) utterly smashed Juventus last season.

Meanwhile Tottenham are celebrating their win over a Milan side with the combined age of Ben Nevis, and looking forward to their inevitable defeat in the next round, probably at the hands of something called a 'Schalke'.

The club has also arranged for a laminated printout of last night's result to be placed in the trophy cabinet at White Hart Lane alongside their 2008 Fair Play award and Ledley King's victorious £5 scratchcard.

I'd be very surprised if he starts. Given the amount of time he's been out for, I can't see him starting after only playing ~20mins 4 days ago.

At a guess, he'll play 30mins or so depending on how the game is panning out and then start the return leg next week.
I know what your saying but i would rather see us out of the europa league next year and with a decent signing or two go after the champions league places . I think a year of just focusing on the premier league and domestic cups could do the club the whole world of good .

No Europe at all will make it harder to keep hold of players, harder to attract new players and less money. While 6th will probably still be good enough, guaranteeing qualification by either winning the competition or finishing 5th should be a priority for us.

You always watch the team you support no matter how boring you know the game is going to be. And we all know that tonight you'll be a Braga supporter Azza ;)

Van Persie's always been a crock. Without wanting to fuel DM's fire, it does appear that Arsenal have gambled with Fabregas's fitness a few times over the last 2 years and it appears to have backfired.

Haha of course! :p. I can see it being worse than the Sparta game. Though I hope Liverpool go for the win and not fanny about like in Prague!

Isn't that counter productive in the sense that it tells the rest of the squad "you are crap".

It is counter productive in the sense we won't have Cesc for a few games, but the rest of the squad know they're not as good as Cesc so that doesn't matter.

He injured himself in the 15th minute, gotta wonder why he said he was fit when he clearly wasn't. I know it's a big game for him but it comes across as him being selfish

Well done Spurs - completely deserved.

Thought Sandros gave a way a few really dangerous passes, but otherways was probably MotM, AC seemed ot have a huge amount of possession while not being that dangerous with it in the final 1/3

Crouch was a disappointment, the one decent shot he had he wasted with a pass to no-one, and climbing so obviously for someone of his height lol

edit - Gallas really has a knack for crucial goal-line clearances lol

Liverpool 11: Reina, Johnson, Carra, Soto, Skrtel, Spearing, Poulsen, Lucas, Meireles, Cole and Kuyt.

Not quite sure how we're going to line-up tbh. Either:
----------Reina
Carra-Soto-Skrtel-Johnson
-----Spearing-Poulsen
--Meireles-Lucas-Cole
----------Kuyt

or:
-----------Reina
----Carra--Soto--Skrtel
Spearing--Poulsen--Johnson
---Meireles-Lucas-Cole
-----------Kuyt

Spearing/Lucas could be the other way around in the first line-up.
