UEFA Euro 2012 - Group D - ** spoilers ** (England, France, Sweden, Ukraine)

The Mertens guy gave a half-arsed apology on twitter. As far as I'm concerned he can **** right off. No need to push Cahill like that and now it's cost him his Euro 2012 place. Disgraceful.

I don't think he (Mertens) wanted to hurt him, but it was irresponsible.

As for Ferdinand? It's totally strange that he isn't being taken now.

He's our most experienced centre back more or less, he's played an awful lot for Man Utd this season and he's a decent all round defender.

I can understand why he's upset. Hodgson has made a foolish error in not taking him.

IAs for Ferdinand? It's totally strange that he isn't being taken now.

It's not strange, we all know the reason he wasn't selected was because it was a Terry or Ferdinand situation, now had it been Terry that had been crocked with a broken jaw Ferdinand would have been on speed-dial! :p

This is actually the reason why I despise Terry more than anything, ignore adultery, ignore the racism, ignore him just being a general ****, the fact that two players have now missed out playing at a major international tournament because of him whilst he's not even offered publicly to remove himself from selection just proves exactly what type of man he is. He is scum of the very highest order (this once again proved by how quickly he was up those stairs in Munich to lift a trophy he played no part in winning).

A push in the back is malicious? Kicking someone is malicious. Punching someone in the ribs is malicious. Elbowing someone in the head is malicious. A tiny shove in the back isn't malicious. It's just unfortunate that that shove resulted in Cahill breaking his jaw (something that wouldn't of occurred 9 times out of 10)

I wouldn't call it innocuous, innocuous would be a blameless collision, a mistimed but harmeless tackle, a genuine attempt to play the ball, something along those lines.

Where I would stop short of calling it malicious is although he very clearly pushed him intentionally into the keeper, I don't think he would have had it in mind that it would hurt him let alone break his jaw. It was just a very pointless and silly thing to do, I suspect that will annoy Cahill more than anything.

Roy Hodgson dismays anti-racism group with handling of Rio Ferdinand

Dear god not all this racism stuff again :(

Hodgson is the manager - can't he just be allowed to pick his own team and be left to it rather than having the press decide who should and shouldn't be in the team?

I'm sure earlier in the season Ferguson spoke about Ferdinand saying he wasn't capable of playing 3 games a week which if he went to the Euros he would have potentially had to do. For that reason alone I wouldn't have taken him, let alone some of the performances I saw from him this season.

The way he and his agent have taken it is quite poor as well.

/EDIT - 12th May 2012 in fact.

Highly doubt Rio has played the race card (although he could have). There's plenty of non-white players in the England squad, and given all the racism debate going on around the Euros why the hell would he want to add more fuel to the fire?
