Yup and several of us have consistently said throughout the tournament we don't care about results, we just want to see England play well. To be entertained and able to support our home team. To see them playing attractive, attacking football and getting the best from our attacking and our creative talent.

Southgate doesn't want any of that. He hates players like Grealish. Hates them. He just wants defensive-minded players to turtle the whole match long.

I'm personally sick of his approach. Haven't said anything different all tournament and nobody can accuse me of flip-flopping or being fickle.

We know the players and the FA love him. But he's a useless tactician and he just lets games slip away whilst doing *nothing* about it.

Saka decent player but doesn't have the experience to pull off some of the stuff he tries. Tactically good player to bring on at the start as he tends to be disruptive, something that Southgate's setups don't tend to be, with the balance working out in our favour but not a player to bring on later in the game especially not to try and hold a lead - possibly a bit of a forced situation there as Trippier maybe struggling with fitness.

We've got plenty of reliable penalty takers and Southgate must have appraised the squad's penalty taking capabilities long ago - I wonder if someone was playing out an agenda there trying to make a story out of Saka and it cost England instead. (Though probably just ineptness on Southgates's part).

Hope this experience doesn't set him back as he looks like a promising player with potential for greatness with a bit more experience under his belt.

It felt like the only player brave enough to try to make something happen in the second half was Declan Rice. Some marauding midfield runs only to have barely any support. Thought he was much better this game than against Denmark and looked to get the ball forward quicker. Looked utterly knackered when he came off though.

Funny thing is I wouldn't have chosen Rice in a line up against Italy.

Agree as I mentioned earlier for me up to coming off was MOTM. A few times he needed to pass earlier but he dominated the middle.

Yeah it happened early on in the game too. It would have changed the entire game if they were a man down with 60 mins to go, it would never have went to extra time. Ref's let more things go in a final usually. They don't want it to be ruined by a decision. Chiellini however in no world was even close to being a red. Folk on here that think that was a red have some very fine rose tinted spectacles. If it happened off the ball then sure it possibly could have been a red but it didn't. It was a professional foul. Everyone does it. In fact mourinho and guardiola teams in england do it all the time.
 
Tbf Italy should have had a player sent off, think it was chiellini who almost took Saka’s head off with that shirt pull. But ref didn’t have the balls to send him off, had he done so then I think the game would have turned out differently.
But overall Italy outplayed us, they bossed us with over 70% possession. At points it seemed like we were just chasing shadows and we ended up getting gassed.

In the 2nd half you could see the lack of intent. On the rare occasion we had possession in the Italy half (vs just hoofing the ball upfield to their defenders), look at the lack of England players getting into the box. Often there was just one white shirt in the box. One.

Nobody was supporting the attack and the team was basically in turtle mode.

They got what they deserved after than 2nd half performance. You can't turtle your way to victory against the top sides.

Harry Wilson got a straight red for something similar in the Wales v Denmark game although I'd agree neither were reds but Jorginho on Grealish could have easily been a red.

Sorry I thought this was a forum not a safe space echo chamber. Should I start rioting too and abusing professionals on Twitter, I mean that would be stooping. I'm a firm believe of don't dish it out if you cant take it so perhaps you'd benefit the most for 'naffing off' and taking a breather. Don't pretend for one minute it wouldn't be the same had the ball been on the other foot either, which thankfully it wasn't.
If you quantify trolling as posting something you don't like or agree with then sure I am. I'll naff of though as you requested, I'm all for helping those less fortunate.
 
Better team (well, tactics imo) won last night. Very few real chances in the game for either side. First half I thought was pretty evens maybe England slightly edging it due to the goal, Italy had the possession but that was mostly due to the way the teams were setup. The second half pure game management approach was frustrating to watch because we've seen it all before in the semi vs Croatia at the last WC. Italy looked a lot less likely to score in the first half when they knew we could easily come out and punish any mistakes. Once England changed to a 4-3-3 when Henderson and Saka came on we looked quite a lot better imo, especially in the second half of ET. Unfortunately neither of those had their best game on the night.

Not much to say about the pens really other than it's horrible that we brought two penalty specialists on who both missed! Can't blame them at all though as your first kick of the ball being a pen + knowing you're only on for that reason isn't an ideal situation to say the least. Really feel for Saka, that pressure must have been horrendous. Shout out to Pickford who was immense during the shootout - His relatively small size I think puts him at a disadvantage there but to save two including from Jorginho who I don't think I've ever seen miss one is great.

I really hope that this loss doesn't scar the players (far better mentally to lose a narrow game in normal time I expect) too badly as being such a young group they're going to be our team for a long time.

Yeah it’s annoying me to, everyone just saying “England fans this, England fans that” and how we don’t deserve to win. Bore off it’s not everyone.
 
Also feel like I need to give a worthy mention about Maguire and Pickford. Both criticised pre tournament and both put there all in every game we played fantastic tournament for both and Pickford in that final did more than enough for us to win that shootout.

Please show me where I have accused all England fans of being X,Y,Z, I'm working from home so no rush. It was a football game, I'm not having a week of celebrations. I mean you could also choose not to wallow in here, your life though,
 
Felt sick reading my Facebook feed this morning. Not because there was anything abusive posted but because failure finally appears to have been normalised. So many people saying it doesn't matter we lost, all that matters is how Southgate conducted himself throughout the tournament.

Sports about winning. End of.
