nah mate its Southgate's fault in'it, i'm just gonna ignore the fact that the entire team was completely gassed out in the second half...that no manager would have been able to fix on the day.

I am also going to take the word of the totally not biased commentary that said the team looked really good in the game and that Kane was 'amazing' for barely touching the ball and constantly falling over ... oh until extra time started when they then decided to backtrack to reality with the 'Kane has been poor for the last 45 minutes' remark.

Incredible really.
 
A good tournament from England and we only fell at the final hurdle in the lottery of a penalty shoot out, the only disappointment for me was the performance in the final but you have to credit Italy for the they made some changes at half time and we couldn't cope, they have a lot of willy old heads particularly at the back some of the tactical fouling etc in the second half was a master class in game management. England will come again we have a lot of young players and they will learn from this like they did the last world cup as will the manager and hopefully we will come back stronger, plenty of what ifs in the players chosen for penalties but then there always is when you loose.

The racist abuse that has flown in the direction of the players who missed the penalties is appalling and makes me wander why the players bother, they are treated as hero's when we win and then reduced to that when they have a bad day at the office. It is a very strong reminder to all those who question why the team take a knee before games particularly those politicians who are in a position to change the country for the better. Rashford, Sancho and Saka can hold there heads up and be proud of what they have achieved at such a young age and all deserve the support of the fan's in getting over what is not a nice experience.

Yeah.. I'm still coming to terms with it. I watched it at the pub was a great atmosphere til the result.

For me we were the better team first half. The perfect start, and nullified Italy of any good opportunitys.

Second half terrible, sat deep we got pressed and the inevitable happened and it was one of the few mistakes we made at the back all tournament.

Chilieni should have seen red, Jorginho should have seen red and we were the far better team in ET just lacked a goal..

Gareth's setup throughout the tournament has been marmite and some decisions I can't wrap my head around.

But he lost that game, Henderson came on for Rice who was my MOTM upto that point and had a shocker.

Saka has been awesome all tournament but was off the pace and second best.

Finally leaving Saka to take the 5th is a mystery. I wouldn't have even had him take one I'm sure Phillips can take solid pens and also Grealish.


To sum up if someone had said at the start would you take runner up I'd have snapped there hand off. Great performance for the most part Shaw or Sterling player of the tournament for me.

As I keep saying, results aren't the only thing that matter.

We had another **** game last night. Look at the subs. Italy made their first sub with 54 mins on the clock. To freshen things up.

When does Southgate make his first sub? 70th minute. He then proceeds to only use 3 subs out of the 5 in 115 minutes.

He brings Grealish on with only 20 minutes of the game remaining.

Southgate has only ever had one plan. Defend defend defend. It's not good enough to have a manager that's so dogmatic and so inflexible.

When does Southgate act pro-actively in a match? In the interview he gave before the match, do you recall what he said?

"It's up to the boys now, I've done everything I can, it's up to them now."

It's like Southgate thinks after kick-off he should just spectate. If it starts to go wrong, like another posters said, he's a rabbit in headlights, with no answers.

You have to take a machine gun out and blow someone away to see a red in a finals and don't make me laugh at chiellini being a red. Wasn't a goal scoring position and all he did was pull him down.

Or did you miss when de jong fly kicked alonso in the chest in a final? The only memorable red in a final is zidanes and that's because it was an off the ball assault.

Well the CS argument is line up the youngsters to miss so the new generation remember their misses and stop talking about his 96 one, but I think Gareth did want to win deep down. Somewhere, even if his tactics weren't conducive to that.

You can give red for more than just "goal scoring opportunity" he yanked the shirt neck so hard it practically choked the guy and dumped him onto his back. That was more of a red than a card for Beckham's pansy flick out against Simeone.

No it wasn't. Lol at choke. Have you ever been in a fight?

Again beckhams was an off the ball incident. Those are always red.

It's the only reason why de Jong wasn't sent off either. It was an on the ball incident. IMO de Jong was 1000 times worse than what chiellini did and he never saw red so no chance last night was a red.

The team was tired as they spent most the game chasing the ball, manager had 5 subs available yet after 90 mins had only used 1, normally when a team looks tired the manager brings on fresh legs.

soft penalty, not a fake one. The penalty did happen, and there was a whiff of contact. Just a whiff mind.

wtf does fighting have to do with whether that's a red? That's a weird jump. Anyone got a link to this de Jong incident? I'm struggling to recall it.

Not super G, remember Scotland where we looked leggy in the second half and he only used 2 subs? One of those being an isolated Kane in a like for like with Rashford who then doesn't touch the ball for 20 minutes because, shock horror, no service.

As I have thought from day 1, Southgate is out of his depth. From a tactical perspective he's barely a manager. He's done well to keep the players happy but that only gets you so far.

Unfortunately, when you play super-defensive in a knockout game, you often end up on pens, which is generally a bit of a lottery. Of course there's great penalty takers, but you're betting the ranch on people keeping their cool under pressure - and most don't. Look at Kane's penalty vs Denmark.

We had the tools to exploit Italy's weaknesses, and barely even tried for the entire game. Southgate basically wanted to defend a 1 goal lead for 85 mins when it was obvious the team were struggling long before half time.

Of course it hasn't been a disaster, getting to the final is good, but it was just painful to watch the game slip away and knowing the coaching team can't stop it.

You don't get to moan that "England supports are this, England supporters are that," whilst at the same time making it clear you're only here to troll.

Which is exactly what you've done. Naff off if you're just going to troll and gloat. You know what, many people here have already handed Italy the plaudits for the win. You simply choose not to see any of that so you can keep on trolling. If you honestly believe England supporters are a bunch of arses then don't stoop to their level, which is what you're doing currently.
 
I think it's been a great championship. I only watch the Euros and the World Cup - which I'm actually glad about - because I don't think I could take the rollercoaster of emotions every single week if I followed a non-national team.
