UEFA World Cup Qualifiers & International Friendlies **spoilers** [1st - 8th Sept 2021]

It's not really about who is worse than who, Gareth acknowledged the fact we have our own issues. There are racist football fans and other sports fans in pretty much every country and as football is the most followed sport in the world, it's obviously going to happen more frequently. Whilst Rugby might not face the same issues with racism, I've seen firsthand the prevalence of things like homophobia.

I haven't seen monkey gestures and chants in this country for a long, long time barring the odd lone idiot every few years. A couple of mugs sending private messages on social media is a bit different than playing in a stadium where it's accepted and the governing bodies can't work together to stop what was obviously going to happen.

Sounds like FIFA and UEFA are trying to blame each other for Hungary's stadium ban not being applied yesterday. FIFA are briefing that UEFA restricted it to UEFA matches which UEFA are denying, saying they simply had no authority to apply the ban to FIFA matches.

Regarding the 'our fans being no better' argument. There's certainly not the same level of open racism as we've seen with Hungary but there's more than just a few idiots that follow England, particularly away from home. 'Hooligans' might be slightly ott to describe them but we have a massive yobbo following with England and they regularly cause a lot of trouble when England travel abroad. You only need to spend 30 seconds on YouTube to see huge groups of England supporters terrorising City centres and what happened just a few months ago at the Euros final was nothing short of disgraceful.

Although we can't ignore what happened yesterday and should be able to complain about it, we have to be doing much more ourselves to sort out own issues out because they've been going on for decades now.

Is that right that Martial only has one goal for France.

Hes going to get to the end of his career and regret wasting so much of it. Unbelievable talent when he can be arsed but thats only about 5% of the time. So lazy

He could be arsed during the 19/20 campaign. Considering he doesn't take penalties he still got 23 goals for the season. He was arguably our player of the season.

He is the epitome of a confidence player though and needs to be playing constantly to achieve. Getting Ronaldo in will not help.

His complete lack of effort when the team isn't on top. His general work rate. His attitude.

When have we been on top? He was our top scorer the season before last when we weren't on top, he carried us to an FA Cup under LvG when we were far from on top. The general workrate and attitude thing has no backing in statistics and is entirely predicated on the fact he doesn't smile all the time. Rashford presses far less than Martial yet doesn't get the lazy bull from fans.

I'm talking about when the team is on top. He thrives when we are dominating teams. When we are swarming all over another team.

I didn't find any stats for the past few years but in 18/19 he covered an average of 8.45km per game, the third lowest in the team only in front of Bailly and De Gea. He attempted half as many sprints per game on average compared to Rashford. I haven't noticed any change in his work rate over the years.

Southgate's picked a team to really dominate this one with 3 right backs :D Proper second string team, good for bamford to get a start.

Won't be wasting my time on this though.

Martial has had more then enough chances and time on the pitch to have a better goal record then one. Argue all you like but 2 goals in 29 games of which 15 are friendlies is awful.

Yep it's terrible if you don't look at minutes played and just take it at face value. This is why stats without analysing them are useless. He's played 90 mins for France twice....twice.

I don’t care. He’s had more then enough chances for France and simply hasn’t taken them. Simple as that.

1300 minutes and two goals is awful.

15 friendlies of which in 10 he’s played 45 minutes or more and one goal.

In his best season we were accused of succeeding only when we played on the counter, now he only plays well when we're dominating?

I've watched him a lot. His best games have come when we are dominating opposition. You can dominate an opposition hitting them on the counter as well. If the opposition doesn't get a sniff of your goal and you hit them 3 times on the counter, you dominated the game. You played it on your terms and won. He isn't the sort of player that leads from the front, he doesn't lift the team with his performances, his energy isn't contagious, he won't turn a game on its head and lead us to a win when we have been under the kosh all game. He basically goes missing way too much. There is a good reason a lot of United fans would be perfectly happy for him to be sold.

All of this. Martial will never be a player anyone can rely upon because he simply isn’t good enough.
