Well, the first sign of the truly mad is that they believe their own lies and propaganda*, and each times the Russian invaders have killed children they always claim it was the other side so in a truly delusional way they might term this a retaliation. Or far more likely, they deliberately targeted civilians once again. A bit strange because if they want to ethnically cleanse (and for ethnically in this case it doesn't seem to matter that most of the people in Mariupol speak Russian) and plant colonists (Crimea is meant to have gained 100,000s of new planters since they annexed it), you'd think they want to install fear (i.e. use terrorists tactics) so the natives flee.

That's the thing with Russia and China ("re-education camps"), truth or lies don't seem to matter, it's just what they want it to be and that's that.

It doesn't matter how much evidence you produce, it's isn't what they want therefore another explanation must be given, no matter how implausible. It's hard to explain, it's almost like form of brain washing or sociopathy, given long enough in that environment one wonders if we can even compare them to our sense of the right, wrong, truth, lie in their most basic forms.

The issue is getting 60,000 people logistically and supporting them. Without planning, deployment training they're going to be meat for Putin's crotch grinding.

but so far only Russia has used the 9N24 version which, despite Russia's insistence that they don't use this type of missile any more, Ukraine is saying these images show that they still are and that it is this type which hit the train station.

The Ukrainians hit the captured port of Berdyansk with missile launched sub-munitions but there's been no confirmation that is was a 9k79-U missile (the kind which hit the train station) so as it stands the only "confirmed" use is by the Russians (info in the link), despite them claiming they don't use it any more.

the same expert was probably going on about the 50% failure rate and most missiles missing their targets last week.

not that it couldn't have been on purpose and in retaliation for the executed Russian soldiers the other day.

If I had to make a totally random guess it was probably one of the separatist groups (which are little more than facades for Russia's ultranationalist movement) and the slogan was essentially lebensraum. Though more likely it's just disinformation.

Doesn't necessarily mean Ukrainian children. Remember in the Russian version of events Ukraine has been murdering children in the Donbass for years, hence them going in to "liberate".

This is what they have been telling the public as well so I wouldn't expect any uprising from the Russian people demanding to stop the war, far too many believe what they have been fed by state media.

The meaning „за” can be dual. It does not mean in this case „for the children“ as in „to kill the children“. In this case it means „in revenge of the children“ meaning the braindead brainwashed myth that Ukrainians were killing children in Donbas. If it was to mean „for the children“ as in „for killing children“ it would say „для детей” or just “детям“.

Maybe it was a Ukrainian munition that someone had written on but captured by Russians and used, maybe soldiers from one of the breakaway regions who'd lost family, also a few other possibilities - some of these missiles may have come from other wars Russia was involved with - IIRC they captured or took back 6 systems unused from somewhere but I can't find info on it from a quick Google.
