EMP is a funny topic, I see it thrown around like anyone can just put up an EMP to destroy an armies capability- but an EMP that size would be nuclear

some time back my neighbours music was annoying me and I know where their speakers are located so I did a bit of "research" to see if I could make a device that would generate enough of a field to disrupt/damage their speakers and in the end I found it's definitely possible if I can get within a meter of the speaker on the other side of the wall but my house could not supply enough power to power the device and buying high voltage transformers required would be cost prohibitive

EMP is very hit and miss as well, even with ridiculous amounts of energy, up to a point. A lot of the EMP scenarios people talk about in reality in tests have been like 7-14% effective, etc. (obviously there are scenarios where it is more or less effective - especially closer range and/or temporary disruption vs destruction).

Wave guides could make focused constant beams without being nuclear powered but the old inverse-square law remains, so to does the large amounts of energy required.

Yeah they will be annoyed but they will look elsewhere. Most likely they will build up their own markets and the markets around them.

However china want to protect their services, so that reduces the market considerably. Only high cost locations - typically the west want the economics for that.

One of a number of reports Russia is moving heavy equipment to the border with Finland - intentions whether paranoid level of defence or something more, offensive or preparation to defend the border post some provocative act unknown.

I would expect this - given previous history I would expect an invasion and a high number of incursions to false flag. There is no wiggle room for words we can only take actions as intent. Putin will point at NATO expansion yet, Putin has broken the trust by throwing away the agreements wrt Ukraine.

Putin is hell bent on starting world war three as his house of cards falls due to his invasion. China I suspect are hoping that they can survive the unfolding world food shortages due to Putin to annex a small island of Taiwan based on principles.

Dunno how they'd go about it - with Ukraine they've largely tried to avoid depleting their main active forces but to wage war against both Ukraine and Finland they'd have to commit a sizeable amount of their standing main forces - or go to a full war footing and mass conscription, etc. but that takes time to produce anything effective on the modern battlefield vs professional soldiers.

Twitter is pathetic during times like this. Full of ill-informed, reactionary twaddle. This forum might not be perfect, but at least most of the posts are coherent and relatively well researched.

Social media is the causation of people being both the producer and consumer of news. Algorithms then focus what you are viewing into that echo chamber and the circle continues

Looking increasingly like phosphorous munitions which won't prompt much of a response if true I imagine. Only three people effected so far with minor symptoms thankfully.

Sadly even a lot of the OSINT community are just amplifying the media currently, the occasional taking affront when someone calls a BMP a tank, etc. since it has kicked off there has been a massive nose dive in the amount of OSINT sources of digging up new information or insightful dissections of what is going on, etc.

Massive amount of extended NATO missions around Ukraine and Kaliningrad today - seems a significant up-tick on the last few weeks.

Also a bunch of tankers and at least 2 other NATO AWACS, etc. which aren't showing on FR24 amongst a lot of stuff we aren't seeing.

Its down to the sheer torrent of absolute excrement pouring out. It makes sorting out whats genuine and what is mis/disinformation near enough impossible unless you have either huge amounts of time or resource to dedicate to it. You have to look at every bit of info even stuff that seems nailed on with a pinch of salt and its just exhausting and demoralising.
Its the main reason I stopped trying to follow it too closely. I keep a eye on the situation and skim the more reliable sources so I have a reasonably educated idea of whats happening, and I'll put my two pence in if I feel I have value to add.

Interview with Dmitry Peskov, he starts to address the Finland / NATO situation around 27mins (he would not see the enlargement of NATO or damage to the Russia economy as an existential threat).

The Finland boarder is an interesting one, its actually beneficial to make Russia protect as many boarders as possible, it seems unable to fight a war on one front let alone two, it would get absolutely panned by Finland.

With Finland much of any fighting would likely concentrate on a push for the capital but with almost 1000 miles (~800 according to the video above) of border still a big task - I don't think in reality we are so far from the days of WW2 and the man power and industry behind it these kind of wars really need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CqGeAmVu1I IIRC in the video Britain mobilised 27.5 million people for the war effort according to that video.
