I'm just saying hypothetically as we really don't know Russian or our own full capability but on paper at least, the nukes would saturate any defences, just have to hope that their nukes are as functional as everything else about them :D

For what it is worth, the US military claim that they can shoot down every nuke launched against them. This claim does not seem widely believed, but it is likely that the overwhelming majority of nukes launched by Russia wouldn't reach targets on US soil. And while Russia has 5k or so nuclear warheads, the number it can actually has ready to launch before it gets annihilated by the counterstrike is much smaller. A nuclear war between with Russia probably won't be the global end horror story oft portrayed, but it will still be an unimaginably severe global tragedy.

we need some kind of laser defence to stop them

Maybe I watched to many star wars movies :D
In the 1980's the US started to develop a satellite based anti nuclear defence system which was dubbed the Star Wars defence initiative. But it was scrapped as part of the nuclear weapons reduction treaty at Reykjavik between Reagan and Gorbachev. It was viewed by Russia (and Thatcher) as undermining MAD and increasing the risk of confrontation.

Fun fact: The natural place for the summit would have been somewhere in the UK, especially as Thatcher had been instrumental in bringing Reagan and Gorbachev together. But apparently Reagan didn't want Thatcher involved in the treaty so they took place ay Reykjavik instead.

Even lasers have their own issues like cooling and power supply, you can't keep them on indefinitely

Yes any nuclear exchange will not be pretty

The longer this war drags on the more supply issues I think we're going to see

Our type 45s would have us covered.
Unfortunately I do not think that is the case. This was covered earlier in the thread. Unless the situation changed, our ASTER missiles are not of the type capable of intercepting Ballistic missiles, the do not have the range nor the sufficient tracking ability. Though I do believe they have just started a decade long contract to refurbish our current stock of ASTER missiles and bring them up to Block 1NT standard and refit the launch system to give the 45's the ability to carry out that function. However last thing I read on that was late 20's before that will be complete.

There is no guarantee that the threat will be exclusively (or at all) ICBMs. Planes could bring cruise missiles around the top of Scandinavia and unleash a couple of hundred from off Norway's west coast. Type 45s can handle Cruise but not a full saturation. Given that a couple of 45s are usually off on world duties and one or two are in dock getting stuff done, we could only offer up 3 * 48 missiles, which wouldn't have 100% hit rate. And they are unlikely to be all three in exactly the right place!

Thats not strictly true - the S400 has an anti ballistic missile ability (max altitude of 200,000 feet) with kinetic hard kill `rods` in the 77N6 (also to be used by the S500)

I'm in no way convinced they can hit a target doing Mach19, especially as a hard kill. It might, I suppose, but would you bet the country on it.
