I did not mean that Britain is no match for Russia in terms of warfare... In fact when I say "we" I meant whole NATO.

Bottom line is that if NATO and Russia go to war, as I said... It will last 8-10 minutes and those will be the last minutes of the world as we know....

Then its Fallout 4 time :D

I certainty dont want this happen over Ukraine.

That won't happen, NATO (under other names) just bailed out the banks, there's too much at stake here. There's some profit left in us consumers yet.
Once that dries up though, yeah you may have a point.

Well there are a lot of stupid/insane people in positions of power across the globe so nuclear war is always a worry, especially in extremely volatile situations like this.

This is not even volatile! We are just hyping it up, in all honesty.... We dont even care about Ukraine.

Cuban Crisis, that was a really close call... Or the time Americans tried to force Soviet Submarine to Surface, little did they know it carried nuclear warheads and they lost all contact with Moscow....

At that moment they already put the keys into authorization system to unlock protocol allowing them to assume that Moscow has been nuked therefore it was their duty to fire on USA.

Ukraine? This is just child-play compared to what we have been through.

Even though somebody eye rolled this comment, you are likely correct. Britain would be no match for Russia in any kind of war, which is why I find it hilarious when Cameron and Hague try to tell Putin and Lavrov what to do, they don't care what Obama says let alone little old Britain's ministers!

Nobody is talking about a war between the UK and Russia. I love it when people underestimate the UK's resourcefulness in the way you just have.

Makes me all tense and excited.

Can somebody sum up whats going on here? First ive heard about it lol

Ukraine government fell apart lol, after months of protesting lol. The state (which broke away from Russia) has no solid Government and is a mix of Russian speaking people lol, and Ukrainians, Crimean.
Some Ukrainians wanted to join the EU lol, but the protests and general way of life (hardship lol) took it's toll and the citizens took charge for a time.
The Russians who supply a lot of services stood troops up on the border to exercise (lol) and then the rest of the world leaders took a stance lol.
Obama and Putin had a call today to talk about the gas bill from Sochi lol and Russia are now in Ukraine (and have been for days, shooting people, LOL).

Well if you believe that the situation is not volatile, then I'm afraid we'll just have to agree to disagree.

As long as we dont make any moves... We will be absolutely fine.

Although this one made me laugh a bit, until I realized how bad things could have ended;

January 25, 1995: A team of Norwegian and American scientists launched a Black Brant XII four-stage sounding rocket from the Andøya Rocket Range, with the goal of studying the aurora borealis. The rocket, which bore resemblance to a US Navy submarine-launched Trident missile, was detected by the Olenegorsk early warning radar station in Murmansk Oblast, Russia. The rocket's predicted trajectory, as well as its overall shape and appearance, led the Russian military to believe it was in fact a Trident nuclear missile launched from a US Navy submarine and aimed at Moscow. Russian nuclear forces were put on high alert, and Russian submarine commanders were ordered to go into a state of combat readiness and prepare for nuclear retaliation. The nuclear weapons command briefcase was brought to Russian President Boris Yeltsin, who in turn activated his "nuclear keys" in preparation for a response strike. However, after a few minutes, Russian observers were able to determine that the rocket was heading away from Russian airspace and was not a threat, leading Russian military officials to demobilize. This incident was the first and only time in which a nuclear weapons state activated its nuclear briefcase and prepared to launch an attack.

so this treaty; a treaty that basically states that the UK and USA will respond in kind to a targeted nuclear from Russia on the Ukraine as if they were being targeted themselves? Sounds like nothing more than a gesture to put the Ukraine on the MAD spectrum.

I wonder in the UK and US who, under that agreement, will actually press that button and instantly vaporize millions of their country men, and assure the death of millions of others through fallout. It would take some balls to do for a country we, the UK populace, hear little from apart from a poor Eurovision entry every year and for a document signed nearly 20 years ago by leaders who are no longer in power.

I do think that there is a strong possibility that they will 'invade' with ground forces and there could be skirmishes and possibly a full blown regional war.

However I do not for one minute think that Russia will use Nuclear warheads for this problem; sledgehammer to crack a nut etc etc. I do not think that the West, especially Britain can anything about any reaction that Russia will have. If Russia wants to go the diplomatic route it will be because they want to. If they want to invade it will be because they want to. They will not be told.

The West is pretty ineffectual here. I feel sorry for the people of the Ukraine caught up in this. Most people there will be people like us all who just want to get on with their lives and raise their children. However Russia hold the cards here as far as I can tell.

Why on earth would Russia just nuke Ukraine? I can't think of any possible reason why they would want to do that so that treaty is a moot point.
