This is all very worrying, we have a duty to protect Ukraine but at the same time on one wants a war with Russia.

Maybe the start of Cold War II?

You could say the Cold war II has been going for years just look at how any ex soviet allies have been toppled by NATO, the majority of the Black Sea coastline is held by NATO allies except for Georgia which is actively seeking NATO membership.

Putin will not let go of Crimea especially after his plans for Naval base in Libya did not happen & the Tartus base in Syria is under threat due to the uncertainty of the outcome of the Syrian war.

I agree with House. If Ukraine asks for help then they should receive it.

From you two? Not me or my family or taxes, what's special about defending Ukraine and not all the other wartorn and divided nations, to me nothing at all, not a penny to be spent or mil of blood spilled.

Ukrainian navy chief just pledged allegiance to the Crimean people, so looks likes hes in with the Russians, not gonna end well.

I feel this is a job for the UN, not NATO, US/UK, although its not likely with Russia having a veto and all, its going to be a **** storm if US/UK forces get involved

Fear not, we have two from the forum just loading up to go and sort it out.

No one is going to do anything. Stop worrying and go and have fun.

He was appointed to his post two weeks ago by Yanukovych so not entirely surprising.

I doubt they will do anything except maybe re-inforce bases in eastern Poland and the Baltics.

That's the fellow who joined chechen separatists.

Western media won't be mentioning this, it's surprising that bbc aknowledge existence of Right Sector in maidan at all, and they only mention it 3 months after protests started and downplay role and numbers.

Two main nationalistic parties are Right Sector and Svoboda. Played significant part in overthrowing Yanukovych as was most aggressive and willing group of protesters.

From my knowledge the current administration is essentially people who were in charge right after orange revolution and said nationalistic parties do not play a large role, however the russian language ban on municipal level was proposed and pushed by the nationalistic leader of svoboda if I am not mistaken.

I wrote it all before you guys conveniently overlooked it.

Aleksandr Muzychko is the sort of person who'd turn up at any sort of rally and start throwing rocks. Has anyone from Right Sector or Svoboda been given government posts? From the last reports Oleh Tiahnybok wasn't even on the list.

The Russian language ban is stupid but that's a Ukranian issue to resolve. None of this is anything to so with Russia outside of ensuring the security of military interests it owns in Crimea already (in accordance with already agreed treaties).

im not worried as it probably wont effect me directly as im not stupid enough to be in the military, but what im saying is that if they do get involved its going to be the next cold war with russia, putin isnt exactly Gorbachev

:)

Help can come in many ways though and British troops on the ground in a combat role would be very far down the list. It wouldn't be a lone venture either.

Forgive me for being a little obtuse, but I am not really 'getting' what your role in this is. I know you are a man of backbone, so surely you can just 'merc up' and go and sort it out.

So is that what are you doing to help Ukraine? I know it is not a lone venture because you have Dr House on board.

Hardly surprising really, considering where they're based. Nothing major is going to happen, Putin has not gone nuts, hes just flexing his muscles. He doesnt want his Syria win to be seen as just a blip before westernisation of russias spheres of influence continues, but rather as a full stop. Its vaguely possible for this to turn into a limited shooting war between russia and ukraine, but a wider war would be inconceivable and in no ones interests.
