I didn't know they did some modifications to the engine.

Apparently:

"The next-generation Abrams main battle tank will be given a hybrid conventional-electric propulsion system, enabling 50 percent less fuel consumption and silent mobility".

"A main battle tank for the next generation, the AbramsX technology demonstrator features reduced weight for improved mobility and transportability, delivering the same tactical range as the M1A2 Abrams with 50% less fuel consumption. The AbramsX’s hybrid power pack supports the U.S. Army’s climate and electrification strategies, enhances silent watch capability and even allows for some silent mobility. With a reduced crew size and AI-enabled lethality, survivability, mobility, manned/unmanned teaming (MUM-T) and autonomous capabilities, AbramsX can be a key node in lethal battlefield networks and serve as a bridge from Abrams SEPv3 and SEPv4 to a future tank."

Wow if this will become reality this is something new and impressive piece of kit.

Seems like recon/monitoring drones would potentially be more useful? Or be supported better by troops with anti-drone/anti-air.

So realistically where are we at now? Russia is getting beaten back with a big stick, backed into a corner, we continue arming Ukraine and hope that Russia doesn't do something stupid?

I'm guessing if it did it would be altogether cut off from the rest of the world at very least all of Europe?

They must be starting to run low on numbers of both personnel and arms.

No different to 1960s cold war era russia - just as putin wants.

So realistically where are we at now?

I think the victory condition for Russia is now unachievable, they've lost so much ground, taken so many losses - with winter on the way I can't see them making any real progress, or re-taking all of what they've lost, not now.

Especially when you consider the west is still sending $Billions in aid/lethal aid and support, there's no way the west is going to let Putin back in the game here, and the Ukraine have fought like lions - and there's no sign of that waning.

That said, I still honestly have no idea how Russia get's out of this, absolutely no idea (short of Putin being assassinated), I don't think he'll turn-tail and pull out, nor do I think he'll re-attempt a wider attack on Ukraine.

We might see a very long drawn out war over the annexed territories and Crimea, it might go on for years, but I legit have no idea - I don't think anybody can have.

That basically sums up my position as well.

If Ukraine can get better air defences in place then even the threat of missile terrorism will subside.

Will still be a hard fought war though.

Belarus is a wild card but I'm still not really convinced they'll do anything.

Elon Musk blocks Ukraine from using Starlink in Crimea over concern that Putin could use nuclear weapons

If this is true then first of all he's trying to make it seem like Nuclear war is averted due to his smoothbrain takes (just lol) even though it's very unlikely to occur in the first place, secondly it means he clearly has no interest in free speech and would be a disastrous owner of Twitter.

One of the problems for Russia is restarting, retooling and scaling up their entirely military industrial system to support a war of this size - which will take many many months and with the recent mobilisation many of the important people for that have either been conscripted to the front lines or left the country to avoid potential mobilisation and the increasing brain drain will further erode their missile, etc. capabilities especially the production of semiconductors domestically.
