I guess 2023 is going to be a worse year than 2022

It seems far from clear what is going on with Belarus - personally I think Lukashenko is stalling as much as he can while trying to look like he is doing something to try and keep Putin happy.

See if you can get some videos and photos for this thread
:D

Probably get 25 years in jail if caught hang around sensitive areas with a camera LOL.

Looks like new Ukraine gains have dropped quite significantly, as the weather is turning I can see it being spring before any major attempts at advancing by either side.
With all that time to build defenses and use the conscripts to hold locations, freeing up the more experienced troops to go to higher value strategic points I think these could be the front lines for quite some time to come, maybe with the exception of the perhaps Kherson front moving to the river.

In a way, a long stalemate could be beneficial overall, more chances for ceasefires and attempts at diplomacy (a dirty word to some here, I know).
There is no diplomacy with a revanchist power, ever.

It will only give Russia more time to plot their next invasion and the eventual genocide of Ukraine, so no I think Ukraine pushing Russia out is the only viable option.

It’s clear he is mobiling. Thus NATo troops for the borddr countries will also be mobilised on a high alert.. his actions are self reinforcing and there’s obviously desparation to ensure victory. Opening a second front to the north epands the fighting fronts so putins plan is to use numbers of people advantage. Pour troops in at all points along the border across country..

OK, I'm guessing that it's a pretty good bet that if our intelligence know they're on the ground then we also know exactly where they're based. Perhaps we should send those GPS co-ords to the Ukrainians for them to with what they will.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard have been detected in Crimea. This take the Iran thing to the next level now.

I'm not exactly surprised and I doubt western intelligence or military are either. it was pretty obvious when the deal to buy a ton of drones happened that Russia was going to need training on how to use them. We can of course do the feigned shock horror in true Russian style :D

Yes I suppose my point was that losing Crimea permanently may have been a small price for lasting peace, and by lasting I mean lasting, not peace for 5 years and then annex Donbas/Kherson next.

Russia didn't really seem interested in negotiating though, so it seems like the invasion was planned and going ahead no matter what, at least as far as I can tell.

I think this will help you.

Putin is no longer an infinite player, the downfall has begun.

I could get that from within Russian but in Crimea. Could they have also pushed the button to launch these at targets?

I've said before that I think Russia could have negotiated here instead of going full invasion, but you can't get into diplomacy when one party isn't willing to discuss things and stick to agreements.

I reckon Russia could have peacefully annexed Crimea as part of any deal they made, but the time for that has kind of gone now.

How many countries does Putin have to invade to make you realise he has no interest in diplomacy. His diplomacy is putting a gun to a countries head and threatening to pull the trigger. Only this time he found his gun is loaded with blanks and is also missing the firing pin.
