Not to mention that Russia have a few BTGs stationed in Moldova, just over Ukrainian/Moldovan border and poised to take Odessa if that becomes an objective.

Transnistria/Moldova and the stance within Moldova if things kick off is another complication - I was just simplifying things by saying Russian sphere of influence - potentially it could be an accessible air route out if the other routes are closed but could also get pretty messy.

Another interesting factor is the Russian ship movements - off the top of my head it would take about 2 weeks for the latest lot of amphibious assault ships to make it into position making it unlikely anything would kick off before that - but it could be a misdirection. It would make most sense if they were used in a multi-prong assault on Odessa though.

Just use the USS Harry S. Truman to block their path, problem solved.

Seen someone comment elsewhere would be funny if Turkey blocked their passage into the Black Sea. TBH if I was Turkey I'd have half an eye on the long game - Russia pushing towards Romania and Bulgaria potentially puts Turkey in scope :s

I've said it before but it looks like Putin is playing out the 3rd round of the "tournament of shadows" despite it seems no one else is playing.

Well Erdogan wants his New Ottoman Empire at some point which means playing every side to give him enough space to expand without drawing too much attention. Pointless trying to rely on them unfortunately unless we just let them take Armenia, Northern Iraq and Syria to get their assurance to do something about Russia.

Airport was fine no panic etc.

However, the woman checking my passport didnt like it for an unknown reason, held me up, and viewed my passport page by page under UV light, then another light. Then reviewed it again and clearly wasn't happy. She literally went ultra forensic checking everything over and over.

After about 10 mins she called the army guard (dressed in green) who led me away. They checked my passport in a room separately and after another 10 mins took me to the front of the passport line and let me through.

Bit worrying like. Especially as I lost my bank card on Sunday and had no cash and no access to any cash and no working phone.

Possible change of tune? First time I've seen anything indicating that actual British forces would be used.

Johnson: UK would send in troops if Ukraine invaded

Britain is prepared to deploy troops to protect Nato allies in Europe if Russia invades Ukraine, Boris Johnson has said in a Commons statement.

Headline seems a bit misleading if you ask me... Nothing in the article states that boots would be on Ukrainian soil in the event of an attack. It states NATO allies, which suggests reinforcing NATO countries rather than Ukraine. Either odd wording or poor reporting with Clickbait headline. Either way typical of the downward spiral of BBC quality.

**edit**
It appears that I wasn't the only one to pick up on the misleading headline. Wording has already been changed!

Yeah was about to post to say the BBC had done a ninja edit :p. I still think the headline is a bit misleading Tbf though: "Johnson: UK would boost Nato troops if Ukraine invaded" does kind of make it sound like he's talking about sending British troops to fight the Russians.

Bit scary!

Might be worth replacing your passport for next time. Report it lost and pay for another in case it's damaged in some way.

People need to stop whining about a Russian invasion (and you about your security scare), don't you know what's occurring here in Blighty? The Metropolitan Police are investigating whether a party involving a birthday cake occurred, and we are all living in fear and a tremblin' until it's resolved, agog in front of our televisions!. The media are awash with this. Russian invasion? Pah! Nothing of concern relative to this cake eating issue.... Putin must hold fire until CakeGate is resolved ;)

It was a bit ... I mean I know I'm not a ruski, I know my passport is genuine ut hasn't been used in 2 years and was fine coming into kiev.

Maybe I will try anew one. I wouldnt mind getting stuck as much in Spain but didn't want to get stuck in kyiv with no money.

And when Russia invades, killing countless Ukrainian civilians in the process, people like you will be bleating and crying about how we, the West, did nothing to prevent it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
When the US invade Iraq for oil over one hundred thousand civilian lost there lives but did it stop the war no, and tens of thousands of military deaths! And now your worried when Russia invades!

The media is one of the best for spreading scaremongering tactics and propaganda in the west, I would agree to find a peaceful way in talks over the Ukraine crisis:), we don't need another cold war with Russia:(

Always depends on what the other party wants - sometimes there simply isn't a peaceful way if one party doesn't want it.

I have no idea if that is true or not in this case - Putin so far with this situation is acting very differently to the Putin of a year or more ago.

How can there be a peaceful solution with a Russian incursion already in crimea and other Eastern areas.

Unless Putin is removed and a new goverment pulls back peace is an impossibility.
